Everyone is freaking out that Jinn told Ozpin that Salem couldn't be defeated but...
Ozpin asked, "How do I defeat Salem?"
And Jinn responded with, "You can't."
Ozpin specifically asked about himself. How could he defeat Salem. Jinn told him that HE himself couldn't.
"How can I defeat Salem?"
"YOU can't."
Salem can be defeated, but Ozpin can't and won't be the one to stop her.
That's where Team RWBY, specifically Ruby, come into the picture because they'll be the ones to stop Salem. Though Ruby will obviously play a bigger role in stopping Salem than everybody else.
