Chapter Eight: Third Person POV

Josh:

Josh couldn't understand why he got along with the shy boy so much.

I'm just trying to help him settle in, he always tried to remind himself, when he did something good for Tyler. But why did he want the boy to settle in? He was supposed to hate him for stealing his love from his mother. Josh wasn't stupid. He could see Laura loved Tyler already.

A day had passed since the Joseph's moved in and it was currently Wednesday which meant Josh was in class. Professor Levine was currently teaching his Anatomy, one of Josh's favourite courses because he loved to learn about the parts of organs in the body. He just loved anything that had to do with the body.

"Pst" he heard, turning around to come face to face with Charlie, a guy that'd been bothering Josh for a while now to go out with him no matter how many times the blue haired boy said he wasn't interested. Josh wasn't one to define his sexuality but if he ever was asked, he'd say he was maybe bi?

He turned back around, taking notes and trying to ignore the boy but he couldn't when he felt a spitball to the back of his head. He groaned in anger, accidentally snapping his pencil in half which made him more angry.

Who throws spitballs to win people over as lovers, even?

"What the fuck do you want?!" he turned around and whispered angrily.

"Your number" Charlie answered cheekily. His blue eyes were glistening with mischief as he ran a hand through his blond curly hair that fell over his face.

"God dammit, Charlie. Can't we do this some other time?" Josh asked in anger. He just wanted to learn.

"Go on a date with me" Charlie insisted.

"No" Josh said angrily, searching his bag for another pencil. He was glad to find an already sharpened one.

"Why not?" Charlie asked in a way that Josh knew he was just trying to get on his nerves with his whiney little voice.

"Because. . . Because" Josh trailed off, thinking of an excuse, "Because I have a boyfriend. Yeah, his name's Tyler" he lied.

"Oh, so you do swing that way then?"Charlie laughed, "Lucky me, because I don't back down without a fight. I'm not scared of snatching you from your little boy toy, Joshua. Keep that in mind"

And for the next thirty minutes of the period, Josh wondered what he'd gotten himself into.

He had a boyfriend? And why was the first name that came to mind Tyler, the boy that was his soon-to-be brother? He couldn't find an answer to that, and it made him angry.

Josh couldn't concentrate in the remaining two classes and he just wanted the hours to be up so he'd go home. He craved his bed and maybe a glass of apple juice.

Finally, the time hit 4PM and his professor rounded up, telling them to have a good evening. On the entire walk to his house, Josh couldn't think straight and when he entered, greeting his mom and Chris and going over to his room, passing Tyler's that had the door open, when he found the boy painting, he couldn't help but enter.

"Hey" he spoke, dropping his bag to the floor. His voice startled Tyler and his paintbrush accidently entered the wrong place, causing the shy boy to curse under his breath.

Josh rushed over, "Oh my God, I'm so sorry i ruined it" he spoke guiltily, "Can it be fixed?"

Tyler shook his head, "No. And don't worry, it's not your fault. I should have been conscious of my surroundings. I'll just start again" he smiled softly.

Josh felt even more guilty at his words, "Start again? God, that's so much work." and when he saw the red paint, he realised,"This was the painting you said you were working on at Colours right?" and when Tyler nodded, he couldn't help but swear loudly, "God, Tyler, I'm so sorry" he didn't know how to fix it until an idea came to his head.

"Let me make it up to you" he begged, stalking closer to Tyler.

"H-how?" Tyler wasn't one with being too close to people and Josh was too, too close.

"Can I take you out? Right now? The arcade is still open" he kept his fingers crossed, hoping Tyler would say yes for some reason. He blamed it on guilt.

"Uh, okay" Tyler smiled, "I've never been to the arcade anyway, it'll be fun" he shrugged.

"Yes!" Josh fist pumped, "Just let me drop my bag and I'll be right out" he promised, racing out and grabbing his bag on the way. Tyler laughed and shook his head in what he'll later come to learn as fond.

Just as Josh promised, he was back minutes later without his bag and with his phone and wallet, smelling a bit different - he'd obviously put on some cologne. And Tyler was exactly how he was, except he had a black button up coat over his skinny jeans and he was wearing shoes.

"Ready?"he asked and Tyler nodded. They went downstairs.

"Going somewhere?" Laura asked from her place in the kitchen. She was once again reading and Chris was baking something that smelt heavenly.

"Yeah" Josh shrugged, "The arcade"

"In this weather?" Laura asked, raising her brows in concern.

"It's always snowing here mom" Josh rolled his eyes, "Besides, I owe him"

"Owe him?" Laura asked in confusion.

"Yeah, I ruined his painting" Josh said sheepishly.

"Wait what!" Chris asked with wide eyes, "You ruined his painting and you're still alive? Once I ruined Tyler's painting and I had to eat takeout for a week because he wouldn't talk, or cook for me and he let me no where near the kitchen. He literally took a week off school to make sure I suffer" Chris disclosed and Laura laughed.

"Seems like Josh is special to him" she shrugged, and no one heard when Tyler whispered a tiny, "he is"

"Well, guys, have fun" she nodded them, "Stay safe" she called out like she always did and Josh closed the door behind him.

And so was the trip to the arcade where unknowingly, both boys slowly created a bond that they would later decide if it'd strengthen them, or destroy them.
