MONTHS LATER

It was only for a moment.
Almost as if a wall had opened on the other side.
Roman had taken his chance, much like everyone else stuck in the 'in-between.'
They had made it back to the land of the living, temporarily at least.
Roman had not a clue where he was at first.
Then he saw him.
"Stefan!"
Roman exclaimed tears bordering his eyes.
"Roman!"
Stefan shouted as well.
The twins ran to each other, crashing into a hug tighter then ever before.
Stefan would never admit it but when Damon told him that Roman had died he went ballistic.
Breaking anything in the Gilbert house he could get his hands on.
"Hey big brother."
Roman chuckled happily, getting to finally see his twin again.
Roman didn't know how long he'd been dead.
For Stefan it felt like eternity.
"Hi baby brother."
Stefan smiled, tears in his eyes.
"Roman!"
Elena exclaimed rushing to him.
She jumped in his arms and he caught her effortlessly squeezing the doppelgänger tight.
"Hey doppleicious."
Roman grinned as she laughed at his terrible play on words.
"I miss you so much."
She mumbled.
He just squeezed her tighter not wanting to talk about it.
Roman kissed Elena on the side of the head , hugging Stefan once again.
"I'll be back soon big brother."
Roman grinned before disappearing.

Roman couldn't help but smile seeing his older brother at the grill.
He was talking to Matt.
Roman skipped up beside him, surprisingly not drawing his brother's attention.
"Matt can I get some water?"
Roman winked at the blue eyed waiter who grinned widely, having some liking to the youngest Salvatore.
"Oh my god!"
Damon gaped attacking his brother in a hug.
He and Roman rocked back and forth squeezing each other like they had in his final moments.
"How is it on the other side baby brother?"
Damon grinned, hiding his hurt.
"As good as it can be."
Roman forced a smile.
"Seen Ric any?"
"No actually."
Roman frowned taking a seat beside his brother.
Roman remembered when Kol showed up on the other side.
Roman was absolutely ballistic wanting to know who had murdered Kol, swearing to kill them.
It was a good plan until Kol reminded him, he too, was dead.
"Someone say my name?"
Roman's eyes widened as Alaric took a seat on the other side of Damon.
"Get a bourbon for the man Matt."
Damon smirked at the blonde patting Alaric on the back.
"You never showed."
Roman glared at Alaric.
The man didn't respond.
Roman sat there in fury as Alaric and Damon talked.
When it came to a silence Roman stood abruptly glaring down Alaric.
"You killed me. The least you could do was maybe apologize."
The Salvatore didn't want an apology from Alaric, he really didn't think he needed one.
He just wanted Alaric to speak to him.
"You don't want to talk to me."
Alaric told him softly.
"Why wouldn't I?"
Damon downed his drink not missing the two's fighting.
"I killed you."
Alaric told him simply, not evening looking at Roman.
At that Roman scoffed.
"You're being a coward."
With that Roman stormed out angrily.
He'd have Lexi and Kol on the other side, it'd be nice if he had Alaric too.

Roman had wandered off, not knowing where he was going.
"Roman."
Grams, Sheila Bennett, stopped him with a glare.
"Ms. Bennett."
Roman said stiffly.
"Whispers say you're looking for him on the other side."
She glared.
"I am."
Roman didn't dare to get intimidated by the woman.
"He's locked away where he should be."
"Then perhaps I should be locked up as well."
The woman glared stepping closer to him.
"You run your mouth like that and you will be."

Roman spent the days with his brother's.
Saying goodbye in the million different ways he didn't get to the first time around.
This time when he said goodbye, it felt all too real for his liking.
