"I'm sorry could you repeat that? There are thousands of names on Rayna's list and you want me on babysitting duty?"
Roman growled into his phone.
"Look we're all working on it, we just need you and Alaric to watch the kids-"
"Enzo and I have protected Bonnie for three years, why are you you making me sit out now?"
Roman hissed as he stood outside the house.
"Roman please just trust me, Enzo can take care of it himself."
Roman rolled his eyes, hanging up the phone without a goodbye.
The vampire strolled into the house without knocking, the two girls sitting in the living room instantly running to him.
"Uncle Roman!"
Lizzie cheered jumping into his arms.
"Hi sunshine, and princess."
Roman grinned as Josie jumped on his back.
"Daddy! Uncle Roman is here!"
Josie giggled as Alaric walked into the living room.
"Hey,"
Alaric smiled as Roman nodded in return.
"Girls lunch is ready."
Alaric smiled at the twins as they hopped off Roman and ran into the kitchen.
"You actually came."
Roman scoffed as the words fell from Alaric's mouth.
"You think I wouldn't do anything for those little girls?"
Roman asked as Alaric furrowed his eyebrows.
"Don't look at me like that Ric, just because they aren't my kids in anyway doesn't mean I don't care about them."
Roman sighed stuffing his hands in his pockets as he walked into the kitchen.

The girls played with Roman and Alaric all day, coloring and playing tag.
Eventually the two girls were worn out and went back to their rooms to nap.
"So you and Enzo?"
Alaric asked as he and Roman began to pick up the crayons and markers around the living room.
"You and Caroline?"
Roman asked right back making Alaric shut his mouth.
"Why are you acting like this?"
Alaric sighed as he put the crayons back in their box.
"I don't know Alaric, maybe it's because my fiancé is out there risking his life for my nearly dead best friend."
Roman glared throwing down the coloring book.
"That not what it is and you know it."
Alaric glared heatedly.
Roman rolled his eyes turning to walk away, only for Alaric to grab his wrist.
Roman turned slowly, face to face with Alaric.
"Seems we're always in this position aren't we?"
Roman whispered bitterly pulling his wrist back harshly.
"Why are you so hostile?"
Alaric asked raising his voice.
"Because I can't stand you sometimes! You're engaged to Caroline? You don't love Caroline!"
Roman exclaimed, all of his rage seeping out as he threw the markers at Alaric's feet.
"You don't know who I love."
Alaric shouted back furrowing his eyebrows.
"Yeah I do Ric, you wanna know why?"
Roman's face contorted in anger as he took a step closer to the man.
"Because you used to love me. You don't love Caroline, you just want a mother for your kids and that is a fact."
"Stop acting like you know me Roman!"
"I do know you Alaric!"
Roman shouted back taking a deep breath as he tried to calm his anger.
Roman sighed running a hand over his face as Alaric stared at him.
"Why do you ever care? You're engaged Roman, it's none of your business."
Alaric shook his head.
"Why are you yelling?"
Roman's head snapped over to see Lizzie rubbing her eyes tiredly.
"Lizzie, your daddy and I were just playing a game."
Roman forced a smile taking the child in his arms.
"What kind of game?"
"A grownup game."
Roman chuckled as he set the girl back in her bed.
"Oh."
Lizzie mumbled as Roman tucked her back into bed.
"Go back to sleep sunshine."
Roman smiled at the blonde as she dozed off effortlessly.
With a sigh of relief Roman closed the girls door softly, walking back out to a worked up Alaric.
"I care about you Alaric, I don't want you to do something you'll regret."
Roman told him quietly as Alaric looked at him with tired eyes.
"I don't want to marry Caroline."
Alaric whispered shaking his head.
"Then what do you want?"
Roman rose an eyebrow as he shoved his hands back into his pockets.
"What I wanted was you."
Alaric whispered softly as Roman's eyes widened.
"You died, and I never got to say goodbye."
Alaric whispered, his voice shaking.
"I never got to say goodbye and when you came back I was with Jo and you found Enzo and I didn't know what to do once we were both alive."
Alaric squeezed his eyes shut, angrily biting back tears.
"I loved you, I wanted you."
Alaric mumbled as Roman stood with his mouth agape.
"I- I-"
For once Roman was thankful for his phone interrupting the moment.
"Hello."
"Roman you have to get to the boarding house now."
Damon's voice flowed over the phone urgently.
"What? What happened?"
"Rayna lied about healing Bonnie,"
"Oh my god. What did she do?"
Roman rushed out of the house grabbing his car keys as he went.
"She's turning her into the next hunter."
