A lot of people assume that Sirius swears the most. This is not the case though. There is one marauder that swear far more than anyone at the entire school- well, except for Minnie, but that's a sorry for another day- is Remus Lupin.
Since Remus grew up so isolated he didn't learn much social edict. For example, you shouldn't swear in front of teachers. This caused poor, baby Remus to say that a plant was "rare fucking shit".
James never really cursed. Since he was raised by older parents, James grew up a sweetheart that didn't cuss. The worst he'd go was "damn" or "hell". Though if you really want to see James swear like a sailor then get him angry. Pissed him off enough and he'd make a sailor blush.
Even though everyone assumed Sirius swore the most, he did the least. Sirius was a "classy bitch" (his words). Yes, he'd let a few slip but he had a different method. Sirius would swear you out without swearing you out. He would let one swear slip but you know he just called you a slut.
And Peter didn't really swear at all. He was one of those kids who thought "stupid" was a swear when he was a child. He doesn't mind them but he doesn't use them much.
Even though they all don't hide their swearing amounts, everyone thinks that Sirius and James swears the most. The marauders were always confused by this but they didn't care.
