The Period Thing

Maya Rivers
-11am, 1 hour before meeting her mum

"Maya! Can you come here" Shawn shouts. I wrap my body in a towel walking over to see him ready and sat at the edge of the bed on his phone.

"What's up?" I ask him. He puts his phone down and holds my hand pulling me between his legs. "Do I have to come to the salon?" He asks.

I let out a small laugh. "No, it would be boring for you. I'm gonna get my hair and nails done" I tell him. "I'll be done at like one then you can meet me at my dads restaurant"

He nods looking up at me. "Sounds perfect" he stands up and kisses me gently. "I- I'm gonna sleep for a bit now" he says. "And I'll see you soon, text me and stay safe babe" he kisses my forehead. "I will" I nod leaning up to kiss him again.

"So this is my mum, she's doing my nails right now. I'm getting mauve acrylics done in coffin shape" I angle my camera at my nails then leave it to the side to film the process.

"So hows Shawn? Is he good to you?" Mum asks. "He is" I nod.

"Does he love you?"

I freeze for a second. Mum looks up at me giving me a sympathetic look. "It's okay honey, it takes longer for some people" she sighs.

"But mum we've been together since September and it's January, that's five months. Dad said it to you the day you met" I mumble he last part. "I know Maya but your dad didn't mean it. He only said it because I wanted to hear it, he truly meant it after a few months" she explains to me.

"What if he just doesn't? Mum I'm falling for him, like really bad. I'm gonna explode if he at least doesn't show me a sign that he does love me. He's always says his friends, family and even fans love me but not him" I rant.

"Oh calm down Maya bear, he'll come around. There's no way that boy doesn't love you. Now go sit in the chair and let me cut this hair" she tells me. I nod going over to the chair, I was just going to cut my hair shoulder length, right now it was just under my boobs.

He'll come around. That's all I could think about.

"Rhys is joining us" mum whispers to me as we sit down. "Why mum?" I ask quietly as he walks over.

"Maya! You're back in town and didn't tell me!" He gasps. "Well I'm here" I chuckle. I stand up hugging him. "Watched the vids they're great" he tells me sitting down.

"I'm filming now. Here say hi" I grab my camera opening it up. "Hi Maya's vlog. I'm Rhys, her absolute bestie sorry Romell and jay" he chuckles.

I close the camera. "So where's lover boy?" He asks.

Lover boy? Really?

"Shawn, he's meeting with a few friends" I shrug grabbing a few fries. "Well he's missing out on the best tacos" dad chuckles.

"That's true Alex!" Rhys says fist bumping my dad.

We carried on eating, I vlogged a little more and mainly I was missing Shawn. Call me clingy I just wanted him here with me.

"Guys I'm gonna head off now" I say standing up. "Maya come visit one more time okay, bring Shawn too" mum hugs me.

"I will and thanks for sorting my hair out" I chuckle. "Come here Maya bear" dad pulls me into a hug. "He'd be a fool not love you" dad says in my ear, I guessed mum told him.

I nod moving back. "I'll take you back Maya, no need for an Uber" Rhys says. I nod following him to his car. We drive in silence but I don't care and neither did Rhys. We could be in silence or apart for ages and we'd be fine.

"You can come up if you want" I tell him. "Why not?" He shrugs. We get out and make it inside. "Press eight" I tell Rhys as I rummage through my bag finding my card. We go up and make it my room.

"We can watch a movie or something" I say then open the door hearing laughing, talking and music. I look back at Rhys. "Someone's having a party" he whispers.

I chuckle closing the door then walk in further. It was Shawn playing the guitar, causally next to him was Niall Horan, Scott who I remember from dinner and a few other people.

"Maya you're back!" Shawn stands up pulling me into a hug. "Hi" I smile then he pulls back. "And it's Rhys" he mumbles. "Yeah nice seeing you too" Rhys scoffs.

"I'll go Maya" Rhys says. "Wait no, it's okay" I tell him. "It's okay Maya he can go if he wants" Shawn takes my hand, like he had to prove to Rhys I was his.

"It's okay anyway, gotta go" Rhys sighs walking out. "Shawn why'd you do that-"

"Don't make a scene" he pulls me in again whispering in my ear. I scoff walking away from him.

"Hi, I'm Maya" I smile at Niall, he stands up shaking my hand. I was too annoyed with Shawn to be fan girling. "Niall" he smiles.

"She knows, she's a big fan. Eh Maya?" Shawn wraps his arms around me from me behind. "Nah I'm a bigger fan of Scott" I chuckle moving away from Shawn to hug Scott.

Shawn takes me back but I wriggle out of his grip but he holds me close again. "What's up with you?" He grits in my ear. "Just... I'm just- on my period" I sigh.

Wow Maya, the period thing?

"Oh right, sorry Hun" he kisses my cheek. I hum a whatever and sit on the bed just watching them interact.
