Will's POV

Where were the gods?

We hadn't seen them since the fiasco at breakfast, and we've been sitting in a new room waiting to be briefed on our quest. I chuckled. Briefed. Like we're secret agents or something. Weird thought to have, but it had been a strange day. I heard a familiar groan at my side. Nico.

"Where the hell are they?" grumbled my boyfriend, his jet-black hair tickling my neck. "Dunno." I said conversationally as I buried my face in his hair. But then I sighed as well. This was getting nowhere. Hazel looked at us tiredly. "Come on guys, it's only been-" she glanced down at her watch. "30 minutes." she mumbled defeated. "Yeah. Thirty minutes." said Piper sitting up. She was frowning. "I don't know about you guys, but I definitely don't like just sitting here. And I swear it isn't just the ADHD."

I frowned. She was right. Something about this room seemed... off. I scanned the space, with a renewed interest. It was mainly grey, with a few windows near the top. You could hear the screams from the fields of punishment, two couches in the middle... and that was about it. Not a very pleasant room. Kind of like a prison cell. I shivered. Not the best thing to think.

Apparently, Nico seemed to pick up on this as well. "Weird." he said, standing up and placing his hand on one of the grey walls. "It doesn't feel right."

Hazel placed her hand on the wall as well, and me and Piper exchanged looks. They both felt uneasy. Not a good sign. I stood up from the black couch and sighed, stretching out my arms. "What do you think?" I asked the daughter of Aphrodite. She looked around the room slowly. "Not sure." she mumbled. Her tone made it all too clear that she was thinking the same thing I was. This was definitely not right. But why?

I groaned. This was one of things I hated. Uncertainty. It had always been the feeling associated with problems. The feeling I got when something bad was about to happen, or I was about to loose a patient. A feeling I'd always known to fear. Some people look at it like opportunity, but not me. It usually meant that I was about to mess something up. So yeah. Not my favorite feeling.

Suddenly, I felt a prickling on my wrist. I looked down at the ink on my arm. My soulmate tattoo. Two little infinity symbold linked together. I smiled. Quaint, but such a bold meaning. But my face fell as the strange sensation started again. It had been happening a lot more recently, and not to mention I still wasn't used to having the little mark on my wrist. So I performed the usual test I did when something felt wrong. I applied pressure to it.

A strange feeling washed over me. Kind of like another emotion warring against mine. I was feeling two things at the same time, but in a different way. One of them wasn't my emotion. I looked over at Nico, who was staring at the wall frowning.

What Aphrodite said echoed around my head. We could feel each others emotions. I realized. I guess that made sense...."Uh Will?" I immediately took my hand off of my tattoo, and looked over at Piper. "Everything alright?" I nodded mutely. I felt a little shaken from my discovery of this little connection. I could tell she didn't buy it.

"Aha!" I started, and looked over at the other side of the room to see a  triumphant Hazel. "Uh, Haze?" chuckled Piper nervously. "Wanna give us a reason for that outburst?" I agreed. Damn, Hazel could be as bad as Nico sometimes.

She made her way over to us almost skipping, her bushy hair bouncing behind her and a wide grin on her face. "The room's made of Mist." she said sounding increasingly happy with herself. Wait, what? Apparently my boyfriend was thinking the same thing. "Hazel,"He walked over to me and looked at his sister strangely. "Care to expand on that?" I subconsciously took his hand in mine, and felt his slightly calloused skin underneath my fingers. I caught Nico give a soft smile out of the corner of my eye as he entangled his fingers with mine. Holding hands had become a habit for us. And not to mention that Nico was a lot more comfortable with physical contact now.

"Waitwaitwait." said Piper incredulously. "The room," she waved her hand around. " -is made of Mist?" I frowned and turned to Hazel. "Yeah... I didn't really get that either." I heard Nico chuckle, and I turned to him sharply. "What? It's not the easiest thing to understand." I said defensively. Nico just laughed and shook his head. I smiled at my feet. Gods he was gorgeous when he smiled.

"Hem hem!" I looked up at Piper, who was smiling at us. "Enough flirting you two. My girl's trying to explain something here?" she looked at us pointedly. My face started to tingle, and I heard Nico mumble "Whatever beauty queen." at Piper. She just grinned.

"Uh, guys?" I looked back at Hazel, who was looking at the three of us with her arms crossed. "Thank you." she said promptly, seeing she had our attention. "The mist works by showing people what they want to see, right?" Uh.... What?

It would seem that our confusion showed on our faces, as Hazel sighed and rubbed her forehead. "Okay look, the mist is a way of showing people what they expect to see, 'kay? We came here expecting to see a room, and if you touch the walls, they seem off. Why? Because they aren't walls." I walked over to one of the wall, and placed my palm on it. She was right. I wouldn't have noticed it before, but I guess the fact that I knew something was off helped. It felt like it was strangely hollow, and not really there.

"Okay, so we're stuck in a room made of Mist, how do we get out?" asked Nico. "Look past it." said Hazel simply. "And how do we do that exactly?" asked Piper. "Maybe-" I started. "Try imagine what's actually there."

"Yeah, but what is there?" pressed Piper. "A room of Dad's palace of course." said Nico.

At these words, the walls seemed to dissolve. They slowly disintegrated with my expectations, the small particles whirling around me like I was in the middle of a tornado. "Woah." I whispered as my hair clouded my vision. A second later we were standing in the middle of the throne room of Hades's palace, and five smiling gods were looking down at us.

"Well." said Apollo clapping his hands together and smiling down at us like we were toddlers who learned what the color red was. "Seems like you passed the test!"
