Laken laid across her boyfriends lap, with a book covering her legs as he was looking threw them.

Laken had been released from the hospital the day before and Derek hadn't left her side one time, and that's why she was currently in the abandoned train station her boyfriend and his pack had been living in.

"You've decided." Derek closed the book, and tapped Laken's legs so she would get up. Then she turned to face Erica and Boyd. "When?"

Erica looked away from her alpha. "Tonight."

"Everyone's gonna be at the game." Boyd said, "We figured it was the best time."

"It's not like we want to."

"What do you want?" Derek asked them.

"Since I turned sixteen a month ago, I wouldn't mind getting my license." Erica smiled before frowning, "I can't do that if I'm dead, you know."

"Well they told you there was a price."

"Yeah." Boyd said, "But you didn't say it would be like this."

"But I told you how to survive." Derek said, looking back at Laken to make sure she was doing fine, "You do it as a pack, and you're not a pack without an Alpha."

"We know."

"You wanna look for another pack." Laken spoke, frowning lightly. "And how do you think you're gonna do that?"

"I think we already did." Boyd answered.

"Like all of a sudden we heard all this howling." Erica admitted to the couple, "It was unbelievable."

"There must have been a dozen of them."

"Maybe more."

"Yeah, or maybe only two." Derek told them, "Do you know what the Bojest effct is? If they modulate their howls with a rapid shift tone, two wolves can sound like twenty."

"Look, that doesn't matter, okay." Erica said, "There's another pack out there, there's gotta be. We've made up our minds."

"We lost, Derek. Alright, it's over. We're leaving."

"No, no, you're running. And once you start, you don't stop. You'll always be running."

He turned around and walked towards Laken, wrapping his arms around her waist as the two beta's walked out. Pulling away, he grabbed a shattered piece of glass and twirled it in his fingers.

Seconds later, he spun around and threw it. Laken's eyes got wide, watching Peter catch it.

"I expected a slightly warmer welcome but," Peter flicked the glass in his hand, "Point taken. It's quit a situation you've got yourself in here, Derek. I mean, I'm out of commission for a few weeks an suddenly there's a lizard, geriatric psychopaths, and you're cooking up werewolves out of every self-esteem deprived adolescent in town.

"What do you want?" Derek glared at him.

"Well, I wanna help. You're my nephew, the only relative I have left. You know there's still a lot that I can teach you. Can we just talk?" Peter asked, moving to put a hand on Derek's shoulder.
