Dad and me sat at the kitchen table and rattled out reasons to be or not to be worried. "Has your mom put you on birth control yet? Are you taking them everyday?"
"Yes dad"
"We don't want you getting pregnant when you're not ready either"
"That won't happen"
"Does your mom know about him?"
"Yeah, but she didn't meet him either."
"He's never gotten rough with you has he?"
"No dad"
"If you have sex, you need to be safe. Take your pills and make sure that boy wears a condom if you forget."
"I know, but we aren't having sex dad"
"You're not? Are you telling the truth little girl?"
"Yes, I'm not ready."
That seemed to surprise him a little bit. Which irritated me, "I'm not like you and mom".
