I know

Mom offered to make breakfast before me and dad hit the road, as I cracked eggs and she chopped vegetables I kept glancing at my phone, for any notification from Lance at all. My mind was somewhere else entirely, in a place warm and safe where no man has ever touched me.
Mom glanced at me, "is there more to any of this that you want to talk about?"
I did my best to smile at her, "just tired of boy drama already."
She looked unconvinced.
"And... yesterday I was a total hot shot and Lance didn't think it was so funny. But it was more then that...but he wouldn't let me explain. He wouldn't try with me."
"Small steps, 'Mara, time will tell. And your dad is right, you've got a strength all of your own, if nothing else, we'll be here to see what you make of it."
I felt the tears forming a little
"I know what I did was wrong...but I wasn't gonna let anything happen that I couldn't fix. Lance didn't hear the whole story. More of it wasn't even my fault.
Mom was quiet for a moment, then from somewhere within herself said "you can't make someone be with you, who doesn't want to be with you. Believe me, I know."
