Asuna: Kirito, what are you doing here?

Kazuto: To help Y/N of course.

Kikuoka: I'm pretty sure you all have no end of questions.

Kojiro: Indeed. What is this project and what is the goal?

Asuna: What does Kirito being here have to do with this project?

Shino: And what does Y/N have to do with this project?

Kikuoka: This is quite the interview. Anyways, to answer Dr. Kojiro's questions first, I welcome you all to Project Alicization. Our primary goal is to create an artificial being.

Kojiro: Artificial being?

Kikuoka: Yes. You see, A.I. are impressive indeed but they lack naturalness. No offense but A.I. like Yui and Strea while they look and talk realistically, their programming and functions are all still very much artificial. So if we were to combine a living human's DNA and raise this A.I. in a realistic environment simulation then I believe we can successfully create an artificial being no different from a human. We here at Rath believe this project will benefit our military increasing our effectiveness with drones, hacking, and anything to do with cyber warfare. The BTLs Brain Translator, we can scan and replicate the human brain, creating a fully functional artificial brain with it's own natural thoughts, intelligence, and emotions.

Kojiro: Sounds expensive. Where'd you get all the funding for this?

Kikuoka: Well the higher ups in government weren't too interested and declined any backing. We thought our project was going to be dead in the water until we were approached by an American diplomat who overheard our plan. He was intrigued by it and decided to run the plan by the US government. They liked the idea so, in the end, we got a lot of backing and then some to conduct this as a joint project between the JSDF and the US Military. The government wanted to be interested when the group of diplomats from the US showed up.

Shino: If the US is backing you, where are they? I didn't run into any US personnel on the way here.

Kikuoka: The US is in a funding position meaning that if we need resources or anything of the sort, we call them. Other than that they let us do what we want as a sign of trust. Now, onto the second question, Kirito is here because he wanted to be.

Kazuto: That's right.

Asuna: Why didn't you tell me, Kirito?! They took your friend away!

Kazuto: This was the best choice, Asuna. Of course I wouldn't tell you because you wouldn't understand. When I heard the news that my best friend was hospitalized with brain damage that could potentially lead him to being comatose for the rest of his life, I almost lost it. That's when Kikuoka told me what they were gonna do. I asked to come along because I wanted to be there for Mav. This base is the only place in the world that has the tech to treat Mav. So that's why I'm here.

Shino: Fair enough. So, what about my question?

Kikuoka: That's easy. To explain it as briefly as possible, Y/N is here to help with the A.I.'s emotions. Happiness, Sadness, Anger, Love. To explain how this is happening we have to describe the environment that the A.I. resides in. We had Rath staff members dive into the BTL and lay the foundation of the Underworld. We accelerated the world's time and 480 years later in the Underworld, a massive society with a population of 80,000 now exists. The A.I.s within the world have all became A.I. nurtured from the ground up. But, unfortunately we encountered a problem, a group calling themselves the Axiom Church created laws known as the Taboo Index. These laws prevented things that we have in our world but also things like banning hunting or traveling to the dark territory. The people of this world follow these laws very obediently. There's not a single piece of trash on the ground or even a thief. If we are able to create these ground up A.I.s they need to be capable of knowing how to kill. Y/N volunteered to be apart of this project mostly because the pay was good. But we needed someone like Y/N, someone who can be as open and rebellious as himself. That's why he's a part of this project.
