((Takes place during First Class if you're confused))
The mansion was silent. There were no sounds besides the creaks that sounded from under my feet. It was midnight, and from the name, you could probably tell that I was going to get a midnight snack. The day before had been stressful, people were running around constantly, and one of the plants outside had been set on fire. It started to spread, but at the end of the day, it was taken care of. Charles had majorly helped with it, and he hadn't panicked as much as everybody else had. I was included in the panicking bunch.
Charles had taken it bravely, and it warmed my heart to see it. Everybody that was at the mansion told me that I had a crush on him, but I didn't agree with them. He was just a friend in my opinion. I had maybe flirted once or twice, but it didn't mean anything.
Yes, he had flirted back, but I didn't care, it was meaningless, or at least that's what I thought it was. He was a very kind and understanding person, and I honestly loved that about him. He was kind to everybody he met, mutant or not. He had this comforting aura around him. It made you feel comfortable and safe.
Maybe I did like him, even if it was just slightly. I would never admit that though.
Once I reached the kitchen, I immediately went to the fridge, getting out grapes and then swiping a piece of cake. Somebody had made a cake a few days before, and it only had a few pieces left. I was surprised that the whole thing wasn't gone, knowing that we were pretty much just 6 young adults in one house.
The chocolate cake was quickly put on a plate, and a fork was grabbed. Once I had started eating the cake, I heard footsteps coming down the hall. It didn't bother me until he walked in. It was Charles. He seemed a bit shocked when he walked in.
"Sorry, Y/n, I wasn't expecting anybody to be here this late." He said, giving me a smile as I hid the piece of cake behind my back, trying to be sneaky, and it was a bit easy since I was sat on the counter, or it had seemed easy until I realize that he could, in fact, read my mind.
"Oh, don't worry, I didn't think I'd be up here this late anyway, I couldn't sleep and I was, uh, hungry " I admitted and he chuckled.
"It seems that it is so, how are you enjoying the cake that Raven made?" he asked while I blushed.
I had to think of some kind of excuse for why I was eating cake at midnight. "Um, well, it was almost gone, I, um, I thought it would be fine if I took some, it's really good," I said, being a bit awkward "She did a great job."
"You know, you look nice, even if it is midnight." He said as I hopped off of the counter. He came closer to me, a kind smile on his face.
I nodded "I know, I always look nice for my suitors." I said, trying to flirt back a bit.
He raised his eyebrows a bit. "Oh, so am I a suitor now?" He asked, his voice holding a cocky tone. "I certainly know that I want to be."
"You do now? You're going to have to ask my father about that one." I said, and he got close to me, his hands rested on my hips. Our faces were close, too close for comfort. It looked like, for a split second, that he was going to kiss me.
Our breaths collided... and then he pulled away. He didn't speak or anything just walked away. I had no idea what was going on and just sighed, thinking that maybe I had messed something up.
Maybe I did like him, but the fact that he stopped scared me. I thought that maybe he'd thought about it and maybe didn't like me. I was scared.
The next days were quite awkward between us. We interacted as little as was needed. It broke my heart a little bit. I had always enjoyed our interactions, and now it was just the bare minimum. That upset me greatly.
On the second day after we had almost kissed, he came up to me. It was awkward, and there was a lot of tension in the air.
He cleared his throat. "So, Y/n, about the other night." He started. "I like you if that wasn't already evident. I just thought that maybe you didn't like me." He explained, which quickly elevated my hopes. It seemed that he did like me and I had mistaken all of the flirting for just being playful. I had been wrong, and I could see that now. "So I didn't kiss you, and maybe I should have," Charles said, once again skyrocketing my hopes. My dreams and mind had been clouded with him ever since we had met, and I now knew my feelings toward him.
"I like you too, Charles, don't worry." I smiled, giggling a bit at the situation. "I've liked you since I met you, you fascinate me, and I-I've dreamt about you quite a few times," I admitted to him, stepping a bit closer to him. He welcomed it, stepping forward himself.
"I have to. I promised you that I would not read your mind for a reason, love." He said and then kissed me quickly. I didn't even get a chance to kiss him back, it was so fast.
"Charles?" I asked, wanting to get his attention, a blush rising on both of our faces. "Do you think we could be, you know, together?" I asked him quietly, hoping that maybe we could be.
He nodded and then kissed my cheek. "Of course we can" He chuckled, brushing back some of my hair behind my ear.
Charles then embraced me in a hug, and we locked our lips together in a kiss.
