xxi. TOO MUCH

     

ICARUS COULD see the shopping mall parking lot already and could tell what was going on when he saw Billy in his car, facing Nancy's car, about to ram their car into them. "Hold on.." He says to Robin and Steve, pressing down on the gas pedal harder. "Icarus.." Robin says, concerned, from the back seat, but he kept going, knowing he was going to make it right before Billy could even hit them.

Icarus closes his eyes and then he jolted forward when he hit the car, the car drifting. He opens his eyes to see Nancy looking at him in shock. "Are you two okay?" Icarus looked at Steve who nods then he looked at Robin. "Ask me tomorrow?" She says and Icarus just looks away, smiling slightly.

When they heard a creature snarling and growling, they all move to look over the windshield. "Holy.. shit.." Icarus said then Jonathan stops the car next to theirs. "Get in!" She says and they all hop out of the car to get into the back of the Vista cruiser. "Go, go, go," Steve kept saying before he closes the back door, him and Robin watching the creature that starts to follow after them right away.

"Dusty-bun, you copy?" Robin, Steve and Icarus turn their attention back to the radio in Robin's hand. "I copy, Suzie-poo." Dustin says. "It sounds much better now, thanks." He says as Robin and Steve look at each other. "Suzie." They say in sync as Icarus shook his head with a small smile.

"You doubted the kid too much.." He whispers. "Okay, so, listen, do you know Planck's constant?" Dustin says. "Do you know the Earth orbits the sun?" Suzie says in response. "Okay, so I know it starts with two sixes, and then a.." Dustin says. "What is it?" He asked. "Okay, let me just be clear on this. I haven't heard from you in a week, and now you want a mathematical equation that you should know so you can.. save the world?" Suzie says.

"Suzie-poo, I promise, I will make it up to you as soon as possible." Dustin said and Icarus looks at Steve with a confused look. "You can make it up to me now." Suzie says and Icarus raised his eyebrows, glancing down at the supercomm.

"What?"

"I want to hear it."

"Not right now."

"Yes, now, Dusty-bun."

"Suzie-poo, this is urgent."

"Yes, yes, you're saving the world, I heard you the first time, but Ged is also saving Earthsea and he's about to confront the shadow, so this is Suzie, signing off." The girl said and Icarus smirks.

"Wait, wait, wait! Okay. Okay. Okay." Dustin says and Icarus waits, kind of curious to see what she was going on about. "Turn around. Look at what you see. In her face. The mirror of your dreams." Dustin sang into the radio and Steve looks at Icarus with a confused look, Icarus shrugging.

"Make believe I'm everywhere," both Suzie and Dustin start to sing. "Given in the light, written on the page is the answer to a never ending story." They sang and vocalize together. "Reach the stars, fly a fantasy, dream a dream. And what you see will be. Rhymes that keep their secrets will unfold behind the clouds. And there upon a rainbow is the answer to a never ending story." They vocalize again.

"Story," they vocalize once more. And then it was over. "Oh, no, I loved it." Icarus says with a playful pout. "Planck's constant is 6.62607004." Suzie says. "My God, finally.." Icarus muttered.

"You just saved the world."

"Gosh, I miss you, Dusty-bun."

"And I miss you more, Suzie-poo."

"I miss you more, multiplied by all the stars in our galaxy." Suzie says. "No, I miss you—" Dustin says but is cut off. "Oh, thank God, I thought they would have never stopped." Icarus whispers.

"It's turning around." Steve says when he noticed the Mind flayer, it was in fact turning around and no longer following them. "What?!" Nancy exclaimed as she turns to them. "It's turning around, it has turned around, Nancy." Icarus says.

"Maybe we wore it out." Lucas says. "I don't think so. Hold on." Jonathan said and apparently, that meant grabbing Icarus' hand to Steve. But Icarus didn't mind, he holds onto the seat tightly as Jonathan turned the whole car around.

At the mall, the group divided into three, Nancy with Jonathan, Will with Lucas and Icarus with Robin, Steve and Chris. "Flay this, you ugly piece of shit!" Lucas yelled, throwing another firework, right into the monster's mouth. All of them continue to throw fireworks. "Hey, asshole! Over here!" Steve yelled then threw a firework.

"Dustin! We're out time!" Steve yells into the supercomm when they started to almost run out of fireworks. "Hurry! Close it now! Close it!" Dustin yelled, to Joyce and Hopper.

Nancy throws the last firework they had on their side, Lucas doing the same and Icarus does the same, then went closer to the railing to watch as the Mindflayer reached out, but Billy stopped it.

"No!" He yelled and continued yelling as he fought back. Icarus stood there in shock as Steve came to stand next to him. The Mindflayer used other and more limbs to stab into the sides of Billy's body, holding him up, before finally using one more to stab him in the chest. Icarus gasped softly and looked at Chris standing on the other side of Steve, watching the whole thing happen.

"Billy.." He whispered as he got closer to the railing. The Mind flayer suddenly starts to back away, roaring. It hits the rail where Icarus, Steve and Chris were standing but luckily they ran back in time, but then when it fell, they ran back to the rail. It was dead. It was all over. Once more.

Icarus turns to Steve who looked up at him. Icarus takes a deep breath in before pulling Steve into his arms, Steve hugging back as tightly. "I-I need to get down there.." Chris whispers, finally taking in and realizing what just happened and that he needs to go and be by his little sister's side.

Outside the mall, Steve and Icarus sat side by side in one of the ambulances, blankets wrapped around them. Icarus was staring down at the ground. "This.. this has been way too much for me.." He whispered suddenly and looked at Steve.

"I know.. it has been for all of us.." Steve whispers and Icarus looks at him. "You know you're my best friend.. and I appreciate you.. a lot." He said as he glanced at the people all around them. "Yeah.." Steve said as he nods his head, looking back at him.

"My dad.. he told me that he got a job offering in New York.." He says and Steve looks away. "Uh.. so?" He whispered and Icarus sighs. "He says that.. we might move there before the school year starts." He says and Steve looks at him right away.

"You-you're leaving?" He whispers and Icarus just nodded. "I.. I wasn't up for it at first.. But I think I am now." He said, looking down and Steve looks down. "You're leaving me.." He whispers.
