Chapter :13

Rishav's POV

Can't believe the way Ananya responded to those douche bags while they were shamelessly coming up to her. She can yell a thousand curses to me for being late to pick her up or for breaking the mirror which did not even belong to her in the first place but she will sit quiet in front of jerks who cannot keep their hormones to themselves.

I had spotted those boys way ago when they had neared her table, but I wanted to see how bad they get bashed by Ananya; but her silence just shocked me. I thought she was waiting for the right moment but when the guy actually pulled out a chair, I had had enough of it.

Being angered by Ananya's response, I took it all out on that guy who probably deserved more than just humiliation in a packed restaurant. I could've easily got him a black eye and a broken jaw. But I guess it was some quick thinking for Ananya to have had stopped me right before I bashed him.

Our orders soon arrived and everyone, except for me and Ananya, devoured on the Chinese dishes with looks of satisfaction. I did eat but the food didn't seem to hit my taste buds. I'm not saying it was bad. It's just that my mood had been soured. And from the look on a Ananya's face, I assumed she had lost her appetite as well.

"Rishav, what's taking you so long now?" Sameer yelled from the living room.

"Relax, a minute late on a date would not kill you," I yelled back at my brother.

I was in my bedroom, looking for the notebook which had my English Assignment. I can't believe I lost it! I am very good with keeping things but I had to lose this one notebook. Just great, Rishav.

"For the umpteenth time, IT IS NOT A DATE!" Sameer cleared away angrily.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever." I waved off, occupied by the trauma of losing that notebook.

Where had I last kept it? On the table?

"What are you looking for then? Come on, now, I will be late in picking up Neha. I have to drop you too on the way," Sameer reminded me as if I had forgotten.

Sighing, I gave up and picked up my cricket kit and followed Sameer out for I knew that he would burn my ears out if I didn't go with him right away. It was Sunday and I had my evening practice at the stadium. I usually accommodate on my bike, but it broke down for the third time this week. I guess it's living the last few breaths of its life.

On reaching the stadium, Sameer shooed me out of his car like the world would come to an end if I kept my butt over that passenger seat for any longer. Rolling my eyes, I got off.

I wasn't too eager to spend another minute in that car with him anyway. He had sprayed so much of deodorant over him that it was kinda suffocating. He sure can do anything to impress Neha.

Neha Swaraj was his "work friend" and from the past few months my parents and her parents have been talking about turning this friendship into something more. I mean, come on! Just say it up front that you all want them to get married and do whatever couple stuff they do. I'm really not interested in my brother's love life. He may not accept that he loves her but his actions justify it enough.

Upon entering the stadium, I was surprised to find many of the guys sitting over the grass covered lawns lazily, going through their phones or talking to one another.

"Where's coach?" I asked one of the players.

"He's got an important call and left for about an hour. So we have got all the time in the world!" the of guy replied, a goofy grin gracing his lips.

Sighing, I made my way to the other group of guys a few feet away. They were crowding around in a circle and cheering. I got curious and pushed through. Saying that I was surprised to find a girl wearing cricket gear would be an understatement. She was putting on the leg pads and her brown hair was covering up her face, draping around her like a curtain.

"Ananya?" I asked, surprised.

Does she even know how to hold a bat?

She flipped her hair from her face and looked up at me. I raised an eyebrow when I saw her outfit. She was wearing a pink kurti and leggings. Are you kidding me? How is she supposed to play in that?

"Hi..." she trailed off, her face turning into shades of red in embarrassment as I took in her appearance.

"What's up with this whole cricket gear now?" I asked as I looked around the crowd for her brother. Ravi was nowhere.

"Um...I..." she was trying to explain when one of the guys- Saqib - spoke for her.

"She lost the toss and we got her to play about 6 overs with us," he explained.

"And let me guess, you were too stubborn and stupid to back off, so you accepted this challenge." I said and smirked at Ananya.

I couldn't help but notice her nostrils flare angrily at my comment. She was not going to just stand and listen, that was assured.

"Okay, ignoring the insignificant guy in front of me, who's in my team?" Ananya asked and looked around.

I couldn't help but laugh silently. She called me insignificant? All the guys had the look of 'Are you kidding us? You think he is insignificant?'

I was the best Ananya could have on her team and she just turned me down. Big loss.

"And your brother is fine with the fact that you're playing with all these guys? Where is he anyway?" I asked.

"He's gone with the coach for some work," she answered monotonously, "so, who's playing on my side?"

Even embarrassing a thing for her was that no guy came up. Ananya frowned and crossed her arms.

Shaking my head pityingly, I raised my arm to signal that I was in for her. Almost immediately, around seven or eight hands got up in the air to play on her side. Ananya looked at me with fury while I just shrugged with a look of satisfaction.

This girl hasn't seen me play. Just wait and watch Ananya.
