Tuesday - 5:45 pm

Our conversation (if you could even call it that) is cut short when we hear the front door open and close.

The voice of my father booms throughout the house.

"Who missed me?" He practically yells, making his way to the room we're in.

"Isla, how was your day?"

"Not too bad, how was yours?"

"Pretty good."

He notices Ruel, and now approaches him, making the boy stand.

"Nice to see you again son."

"Nice to see you too, sir."

"Please, call me Eric."

I always found it strange to see people acting so formally, so the fact that it was happening before me made me want to laugh.

But that was obviously not going to happen.

"Right, sorry si-Eric."

"No need to apologise Ruel. It's perfectly fine."

My father then turns to me, "Your mother will be home soon, but you need to have a bed set up by the time she gets here."

I frown. "Why's that?"

"Ruel's staying for the night." He responds, facing the boy beside me as well as myself.

"Oh."
