Chapter 56

Letting out a roar, Big Sergei charged forward. "Of course he had a bigger monkey!" Snowball exclaimed, throwing his paws into the air. Growling, Tina barged past the pets and met the silverback gorilla head on. The two large animals wrestled each other, knocking over several objects as they fought. The dogs and rabbit had to move out of the way before they got crushed. Meanwhile, Big Sergei slammed Tina against a lever. A curtain on the other side dropped down, revealing Liam tied up and suspended in the air over a cage. Underneath him, a large crocodile snapped its jaws at the child. Max and Duke's jaws dropped in horror.

"Wow, this is messed up," Snowball remarked.

"Max!" Gidget howled. Looking over to his right, Max watched as Sergei got up on the catwalks above, still holding Gidget. He had a pretty firm grip on his gun too. Growling, the Jack Russell terrier was about to race after the evil circus owner when Snowball pushed him out of the way just in time before Tina and Big Sergei rolled over him. Shaking himself, the terrier dashed towards the steps leading up to the catwalks. Cupping his paws together, the white rabbit shouted, "Hey, I saved your furry butt and this is the thanks I get?!"

"Just get Liam and the tigers out of here!" Max called over his shoulder as he raced up the steps. That's when everyone realized that Hu and Laohu were still in their cage, suspended sixteen feet in the air. Arriving just in time to hear the Jack Russell terrier say that, Chloe pointed up at the tigers and the child as she asked, "And how are we supposed to accomplish that?"

"LOOK OUT!" Mel and Buddy screamed. The warning came just in time as Big Sergei threw Tina against the lever that would rise and lower the lift holding the cage that Hu and Laohu were in, breaking it. Watching as the broken lever rolled over to his feet, Pops muttered, "Well, that's just perfect." Coming into the tent, Daisy glared at Snowball and barked, "I told you to get some matches!"

"Tina!" Duke howled, rushing over to the grizzly bear's side. Everyone heard a mighty roar from Big Sergei. Glancing up to see the large silverback gorilla towering over all of them, Snowball mumbled, "Are we gonna die?" Nodding her head quietly as she stared at the gorilla with wide eyes, Daisy replied, "Most definitely." Big Sergei roared again, curling his giant hands into fists that were ready to be slammed down on the two superheroes. Everyone else had ran, trying to figure out how to save Liam, Hu and Laohu.

Just then, Snowball tilted his head when he heard a roar that was louder than Big Sergei's. By the looks of it, everyone else could hear it too. Turning towards Daisy, the rabbit asked, "What kind of animal roars like that?" Hearing the bunny's question, Pops piped up, "Actually, I think that's a machine, not an animal."

At that moment, a motorcycle drove in at top speed.
