I finally get what you mean (a foster-keefe story)

Something unexpected

"Its the big night!" Biana said checking her makeup for the 50th time in the mirror
"And you still haven't asked Tam out" Sophie said leaning back against the bed
"Yeah,well...you don't know something that I do!" Biana said trying to one up Sophie
"And what would that be?" Sophie raised an eyebrow but didn't bother to sit up
"Keefe's going to" Biana slapped a hand over her mouth "I've said to much" her words were muffled under her hand
"And here I was,thinking I was getting somewhere" Sophie rolled her eyes "is it 7 yet? I want to leave"
"6:59" Biana said checking her imparter
"Then lets gooo" Sophie groaned
"Fine. Although I think we should be fashionably late" Biana said as the pair made their way up to the leap master. After a very uncomfortable walk in heels on gravel they got to the dance. Their levels were on the ground level of the pyramid because they had the biggest age group.
"Foster,looking gooooood" Keefe slid up next to Sophie startling her
"Thanks,and you......match me?" Sophie said once she looked at Keefe,seeing him in a black tux with a red shirt and a red pocket square
"Yup" Keefe said "I didn't do this by the way. Biana made threats"
"Hey I needed you two to be the cutest couple here tonight" Biana shrugged as they both turned to her and raised an eyebrow. Sophie looked away looking to the dance itself. It was really wimpy.there was some streamers a balloons here and there,a d.j both directly across from them pumped out a horrid song as a few people tried-and failed- to dance to it. A small snack table to the right finished it off. That was literally it.
"Really forkle?" Sophie said doing another quick scan to make sure she didn't miss anything. She didn't so she grabbed keefe's hand and led him over to the food table hoping something good was there. It was all healthy foods like carrot sticks and sliced apples. The cheesy punch bowl featured in every teen romcom was even there. "Wow this is bad" Sophie commented almost expecting to see Leto pop out and yell 'just kidding!' And show them where the real dance was
"Yeah it really,really is" Keefe said popping an apple slice in his mouth as a slow song came on
"Wanna dance?" Sophie held out her hand to him
"Uh,I'm the one who's supposed to ask you to dance" Keefe said chewing slowly
"Well conventionally speaking,yes. But you where being slow." Sophie said as she shook her extended hand urging him to take it
"Okay, lets dance" Keefe took her hand and ran them to the middle of the room getting everyone's attention in the proses,he grabbed her waist a pulled her in close. Sophie took the hint and wrapped her arms around his neck swaying gently to the music. She looked into his eyes,His beautiful ice blue eyes that remind her of glaciers and frost and the northern lights. She got lost in them,staring intently as the rest of the world fuzzed out of Focus and it seemed like they were the only ones is the universe,almost as cliché as it sounded. Her brain turned to mush as she laid her head on his chest the top of her head right below his chin,for once glad for the hight difference. She closed her eyes and focused on the warm tingle she felt where their skin made contact,it kind of felt like light leaping,but so much better. She stayed there like like trying to soak up every last detail to remember.
"Hey,let's get out of here" Keefe whispered breaking her thoughts and snapping her back into reality
"Yeah,okay" Sophie said pulling them off the dance floor,once in the corner Keefe pulled out his pathfinder a set in coordinates,grabbing Sophie's hand gently and holding the crystal to the faint rays of light. Sophie looked at his face and realized he look nervous with a little bit of sweat over his brow. That worried her,not know what it was about.the light pulled them away before she could ask about it.when the Scenery came into view Sophie recognized it,but couldn't put her finger on it
"Where are we?" She asked
"Moonglade" Keefe said. Sophie sucked in a breath remembering why she had been there,she had bottle stars with Dex and found the unmapped star and burned her hands on the stellar scope "are you okay?"
"Yeah,this is just where I bottled Elementine" Sophie said. Then she remembered she wasn't supposed to tell anyone and her eyes widened
"Elemen what?" Keefe asked
"Remember when the whole  school got evacuated and I had my fist trubinal?" Keefe nodded his head "well it was because I bottled a really important star that only the council knew the exact location of" Keefe looked shocked
"Okay,I just thought I was beautiful,so can we Focus on that?" Keefe asked looking back up at the sky as Sophie nodded taking in the whimsical clearing,the stars over head just starting to peak out of the pinks and oranges of the sunset
"Why did you bring me here,Keefe?" Sophie asked eyes still trained on the stars
"Because I wanted to leave that horrible dance and spend some time with you" Keefe said looking at Sophie
"I knew that much,but why here specifically?"
"Because i wanted a beautiful scenery for this" Keefe bent down on one knee in front of Sophie and pulled out a little black box. Nausea make Sophie back up a step,she really did love Keefe but she wasn't ready for marriage. He cut her off before she could say that "I'm not asking you t marry me,But I am asking if you'll accept this promise ring. With it comes the promise that we'll always be there to support one another,wether that be in friendship or something more. It comes with the promise that you'll let me be lucky enough to be called you're boyfriend and get to call you my girlfriend,and that we'll always help each other through thick and thin no matter what,that we'll always be honest with each other no matter what we feel. I love you Sophie,more then I can say,and this just shows that you feel the same" he opened the box and inside was a beautiful silver ring with a small diamond in the middle,thin etchings of swirls on either side of it
"Yes" Sophie said the simple word not able to put her real emotions into something coherent,but she knew that Keefe felt them,she took the ring out of the box but she felt his hand gently grab her wrist before she could put it on
"You have to promise me one more thing,that you'll never take it off. No matter what happens"
"No matter what." Sophie said "I promise" Keefe gently tilted the ring to show her the inside that had five  words carved into it:'we can beat them together' it was what she said to him when they were living with the black swan,when she was trying to convince him to not leave. She remembered what he said to her 'fine,I'll wait until dawn.for you' . Happy tears sprung into her eyes and she slipped the ring on. It fit perfectly snug on her ring finger,she looked at it before tackling Keefe with a hug knocking them both over,her dress fanning out all around them.she could't believe that he was her boyfriend,It all felt like a dream.
