To Love You The Best Wouldn't Be Too Hard...

Four pills for the dizziness

And two more for the pain.

Crawl to bed, rest my head

Where death has always lain.

He holds my dreams in hand

As the fog corrodes my mind.

Those he keeps while I weep -

He’s always been that kind.

He keeps the nightmares away

As he gently strokes my head.

He’s wrought with woe for he knows

That by tomorrow, I’ll be dead.

He grabs my fingers softly

And finds them to be cold.

He stifles his cries but still he sighs

The stories happiness has told.

My heartbeat is a metronome

And he is counting it away.

This grim role breaks his soul,

But he knows I could not stay.

He kisses my lips that have paled

And takes the soul from my chest.

He holds it near, he holds it dear -

“I have always loved you the best”

I know not where we’re going,

but we are going together.

I kiss his cheek, I cannot speak,

and he promises me, “forever”.
