"He's standing right infront of me." Maddie said in a low voice.

"What!?" I cried.

"Alex, run." She whispered as the line went dead.

"Maddie? MADDIE!" I screamed into the phone. But it was pointless, there was nothing but a dial tone.

This can't be happening, I thought I was free of him. I ran into my room and grabbed a sweater. I grabbed my car keys and bolted out the door. I had to find Maddie. He wouldn't kill her, would he? I didn't want to think about it. I ran past the elevator and went down the stairs. I didn't have time to waste. Once I got to my car I started it and took off. Maddie had to be at school, I don't know where else she could be. I pulled into the school parking lot and began looking around frantically for Maddie's car. Thankfully, I found it parked near the library. I threw my car in park and hopped out. I ran towards the library and burst through the door.

"MADDIE!?" I yelled, scanning the room for her.

"ALEX!" She called out from the next floor.

I ran up the stairs to the second floor and made my way to the sitting area. Maddie was standing on one side of the table and he was on the other.

I stopped confused, and stared at his back. From back on, I could have confused him with Derek. But I was more shocked by who was really standing there. Or at least, who I thought it was.

"Xavier?"

He turned around and smiled, his grey eyes gleamed under the fluorescent lights. "Oh come on peaches, you knew from day one it was me."

Tears began running down my face again. I remember the first day I saw Mr. Gardner and his grey eyes. I'd fainted beccause I thought it was Derek. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, because they were bright blue when I woke up.

I didn't have the chance to speak, "I got contacts after you fainted. I knew my eyes almost gave me away. But I knew you wouldn't recognize me clean shaven." He smiled menacingly.

Maddie took this opportunity to sneak away from Derek and join my side. She held my hand in hers and pushed me behind her protectively.

Derek chuckled, "My plan would have worked too, if you hadn't set up that fucking conference call. I knew you'd figure it out eventually anyway, just not this quick."

He took a step closer and glared at Maddie. "We would have been out of here by now, if it weren't for you. You couldn't have just left her alone until I managed to get to her. I underestimated how much closer you two have become."

"You poisoned her!?" Maddie snapped, "How could you do that to her! She almost died!"

"I had an antidote, I had no intention of killing her. Just, weakening her enough for me to take her away from here." He grinned, clearly pleased with himself.

"B-But why? How does that guy look like you? Why are you doing this?" I stuttered, tears threatening to spill over.

"That was pure luck. When I met Nick in California he agreed to help me out, for a price of course." He started moving closer to us. Maddie started to move backwards, causing me to do the same.

"But you still love me Alex, that picture on your phone proves it. You told me yourself, you still loved me. I'm doing this for us, so we can be together again." He said moving closer.

Maddie looked back at me, "What is he talking about?"

"I.. I still have a picture of me and Derek. Mr. Gardner knew I was upset one day and I confided in him." A sob escaped my lips, "I didn't know it was him Maddie."
