"Mr. Forkle is here," she said. "He says he's willing to talk to you." Sophie's eyes dropped to her fidgeting hands.

"I know you're reluctant to talk to anyone about this, but you may finally get some answers." Edaline reminded her. Sophie nodded weakly and Edaline moved to help her out of bed. Then she took her down the stairs and led her into Havenfield's pristine living room where a familiar bloated figure was sitting in one of the many overstuffed armchairs.

"Hello, Miss Foster," Mr. Forkle said. "I was told you have something to discuss with me?" Sophie needed a few seconds to take in a deep, calming breath before raising her chin and saying,

"I want you to tell me who my parents are. My biological parents. And before you tell me that it's something I can't know, let me tell you something." Mr. Forkle nodded for her to continue, looking somewhat amused by her sudden display of confidence and defiance.

"I'm unmatchable." Sophie declared boldly, her voice trembling only slightly. Mr. Forkle's smile dropped away. Now he looked sad.

"I figured this would happen. I'm sorry, Miss Foster, but this doesn't change anything. I still can't give you that information. Again, I'm truly sorry. Someday you'll understand." Sophie felt all of the fight drain out of her.

"So that's it? I have to just accept that and continue as if nothing happened?" Sophie asked incredulously. Mr. Forkle sighed and nodded.

"I'm afraid so." With that Mr. Forkle stood and pulled out a pathfinder.

"Someday," he promised before letting a beam of light whisk him out of the room.
