I woke up to an empty bed once again.

Thank god his shifts were changing from tomorrow. Spade had a lot of rough work before he met me, his mate. But now that he met me, the king decided to ease him a little bit. Which was very appreciated.

I make my way downstairs and whipped up some toasts and coffee for breakfast. I decided today I was going to take a car to see my old pack. Obviously, it isn't the same, I'm sure it will be different but I just want to see it in person.

"Hey Steve," I greet the driver that was willing to take me there. I knew how to drive, it's just if Steve took me, Spade wouldn't be so mad with me when he finds out. "Hello Miss Kizara, are you ready to go?" He asks and I nodded. In a matter of seconds, he took off driving.

"I can't believe it," I say to myself. It wasn't a good idea coming here because all the memories and trauma from that night is giving me flashes. Everywhere I look I see how it was before, the fire and blood, broken-down everything.

"Kizara?" A woman says with shock. I recognized her as the baker from the packhouse. "Mary," I smiled at her sadly. She had brown hair up to her shoulder that was always kept in a bun, pretty hazel eyes that she shared with her both children. I was so happy they made it out of the fire. Instantly I craved one of her pies. I wiped my eyes and then walked into her arms that she had open to hug me.

"I'm so sorry for your lost," she sorrowed. This must be hard for her also, she was very close to my mother. "So am I, " I smiled at her and that also made her lips curved into a smile. "I heard you found your mate," she grinned as we walked into the pack.

"Yes, the Royal Beta of the Royal pack," I spoke proudly of Spade. "You landed yourself quite a handsome young man," she spoke and we both looked at her husband playing with his two children in the garden. "I'm waiting for him to call, he doesn't know I left," I almost regretted coming back, I didn't want to make him mad.

"A protective one ain't he?"

I rolled my eyes at that statement.

"Definitely."

We walked through the village and several people came up to me for hugs and to share their condolences once more. I barely got to talk to any of them back at my packhouse. Some were even sad to know that I wasn't staying at this back but truly, I can't. I can't stay here because it reminds me too much of them. Too much of how I was to blame.

"Alpha's house next," I say.

A hand covers my mouth and the other hand grabs my hand harshly. Instead of fear, snow purred in happiness and comfort. I instantly knew who it was. "Spade," I muffled at my mate removed his hands.

"What are you doing here?" I turn around to meet his worried eyes. "I almost had Steve's head," he nuzzled into my neck and placed his hands on my waist where they usually reside. I'm honestly surprised he was so affectionate in public.

"I didn't want to disturb you from work," I say honestly.

"I wanted to come to check it out to," he says and our eyes locked with each other. "I'm going to Kiran," I mention my brother.

Spade laced our fingers together and started walking towards the visible Alpha house.

"Sister, beta," a huge smile spread across his face and he immediately hugged me. Spade let go of my hand so I could hug him back.

"My nightmares are starting back, I keep seeing fires and dead bodies and them," he spoke softly of our parents in the end.

I took a sip of my smoothie and placed it back down on the counter.

"You and I both brother."

"You have them too?" He asked me shocked. "No not that, I just didn't think coming back here would trigger anything," I refuse to look at Spade. I didn't know what he would think of this or if he'd think anything at all.

"Oh."

"Everyone seems happy though," I speak positively.

"Yeah, yesterday we had a ceremony to the ones we lost and had headstones near the main field for them, the one by the river," I frowned at this because last time I checked the field wasn't even a field. The grass was brown and dead some burn to the ground.
"That's nice," I stir the drink with my straw. "Yeah um, are you guys staying for the night? There are plenty of clothes and stuff," he asks of us. "Yeah we can stay," Spade and I looked at each other for the first time in a while. I was actually surprised that he said that. "Yeah we'll stay," I say since both of them were looking at me to see what I would say.

"I'll get the uh...guest rooms ready," he slides off the stool and left the kitchen.

There was silence for a while with a thick tension. "Are you okay?" Spade spoke up. I nod at him and drank my smoothie. "It's just hard, that's all," I say honestly and I knew he would understand what I meant.

"It's going to be okay," he assured me.

I sure hope so.
