Ben and I had been sent to train with Luke Skywalker, our uncle. Ben and I were extremely close, we told each other everything. We both knew that our parents had sent him to train because they feared he was too much like his grandfather. I followed him, I wouldn't let him go alone. Our parents had never understood us the way we understood each other. Our father also wasn't around a lot, after we were born he disappeared.

I knew it affected Ben more than me. Having grown up in the resistance we had mainly bonded with each other. There weren't a whole lot of other children around.  When we had been sent to Jedi training and there were other children we had a hard time interacting with them. We only knew we other.

We had spent years here training, and some nights were rough for Ben. As time went on they only got harder, the dark side was calling to him. He and I shared a cabin as we wouldn't be separated so I knew everything he went through at night. One night I woke to the smell of smoke, everything around me was burning.

"Ben!" I called jumping up from my bed. I was alone in the cabin. I could hear someone dueling, two light sabers. I felt my heart drop. I had sensed Luke doubted my brother, but I never thought he'd try to kill him. I grabbed my own weapon and ran through the flames. The surviving students ran past me in the opposite direction.

I came upon the two of them fighting and both were injured. I used the force to pull Master Luke away from my brother before stepping towards him. "Ben! Stop this!"

"I can't, it's too late," Ben replied.

"It's never too late Ben," I replied. I could hear all the pain in his voice, he sounded so broken.

"The First Order is coming, you should leave," he said.

"Not without you," I said stepping forward.

"You have too," Ben said. "Ben is dead."

"If that were true I'd be dead already," I replied. "Come with me Ben, we can leave this behind, all of it. We can run away together. We can go somewhere where nobody knows us." He just shook his head. I knew I could reach him. I was the only that could in this moment. So I started to sing a song that we had sung back forth to each other many times growing up.

I started out, "You come to me with
Scars on your wrist.
You tell me this will be the last night
Feeling like this." I paused where he would pick up his part but he remained silent. I could see the tears building in his eyes though.
"But I know it's a lie

This is the last night

You'll spend alone
Look me in the eyes
So I know you know
I'm everywhere
You want me to be

The last night
You'll spend alone
I'll wrap you in my arms
And I won't let go
I'm everything
You need me to be

Our parents say
Everything is your fault
But they don't know you like I know you
They don't know you at all." At this point, he had fallen to his knees. He choked out the next few lines, "I'm so sick of when they say
"It's just a phase you'll be ok
You're fine"

I moved closer to him and sang back, "But I know it's a lie

This is the last night
You'll spend alone
Look me in the eyes
So I know you know
I'm everywhere
You want me to be(The last night
Away from me)

The night is so long when
Everything's wrong
If you give me your hand
I will help you hold on

Tonight
Tonight

This is the last night
You'll spend alone
Look me in the eyes
So I know you know
I'm everywhere
You want me to be I won't let you say goodbye
And I'll be your reason why
The last night
Away from me
Away from me."

I knelt down next to him as he sobbed. "I'm here Ben," I said pulling him to me. I was silently crying as well, I hated seeing my brother in so much pain. "I'm always going to be here." I held him tightly. He meant everything to me, "I won't let you be alone Ben."

His grip on me tightened, "Don't let me go," he said his voice still shaking.

"Never Ben, I promise." After a few moments of sitting there I could sense someone coming and Ben must have sensed it too.

"The First Order's coming," he said.

"Come on," I said pulling him to his feet. Our mother had given us a ship to get here. Thankfully both of us were skilled pilots, like our father and grandfather before. We used the smoke as cover and took off into the night.
