I stood upon the edge looking down as the ocean waves pounded against the rock, the smell of salt and ocean filled my nostrils. I had been here for hours standing there this place was my safe space, a place where I could gather my thoughts before I made the biggest decision of my life. I felt the ocean breeze blew through my hair, the sound of thunder and seagulls filled my ears. A storm was brewing and I knew it was time to make the call which would be the biggest decision of my life. I turned away walking back to the coastal shoreline, pulling my cellphone from my pocket I dialed the number. "Hello," a woman's voice spoke I give a little smile turning back to look at the ocean for the last time. "Hey Em," I answer with a smile," it's me, Ronnie, look I'll take the job." "That's amazing Ronnie," her voice seemed ecstatic I had been best friends with Emily Thomas since the beginning of my Ivy League College career majoring in biomedical. Once I graduated I didn't bother to return home instead I made my way towards the east coast where I lived in Miami all this time.

Emily had managed to get in contact with me, I was working a pharmaceutical rep making sells all over the east coast. That's when she gave me a job offer from her husband I couldn't refuse. I managed to exchange goodbyes with Emily promising her I'd move back down to California, where I was originally from. The deal was I would work for her husband's company with the drug trade making top dollar. This would allow me to travel back and forth to Santo Padre to Charming. With this new job, I wouldn't be on the east coast anymore, enjoying the tropical air, white sandy beaches or clear waters that I had gotten lucky to live in. Instead, I would be back where my family lives. I made my way up the porch near the entrance of my house, sitting there debating on making the call. "Why not," I dialed the number familiar to me listening to the dial tone as it rings.

"Hello," a woman's voice spoke, "Veronica?" "Hey mom," I answer happily, "so guess who is moving back to California?" "You?! Oh, honey, that's amazing!" she spoke excitedly, "when are you flying in?" I grew quiet thinking to myself," well I need to sell my home by the beach and then get another place." "Veronica you can stay with me and your father," my mother replies," your room is still the same." I sat thinking to myself unsure I had always preferred my own space. "I can stay for a few days," I pause looking at the coastline where the storm finally stirred the waves. I could smell the rain not too far behind," I just need to find a location where I want to stay and a home I like." I could hear my phone beeping realizing someone was calling on the other line," mom I gotta go," I smile knowing who the caller was," I'll call you back later." "Okay, I can pick you up from the airport if you want," she replies I honestly had other ideas. "Nah it's cool mom," I couldn't help but smile," a friend of mine will pick me up he wanted to see me anyway." "Okay," she replies before hanging up. I get up dusting the sand off my shorts before walking inside my house, I dialed back the number.

"Hermosa," he spoke with a mild Spanish accent which sent shivers down my spine," it's good to hear you call back." "Did you get the news love," I question feeling the excitement in my gut I slowly start to undress down to my underwear for a shower. "Yes I did," he answers," do you know where you're living at or staying?" "I told my mother I'd stay with her," I sigh," but as soon as I can I'll move a bit more closely so I can see you more often."I'll see if Miguel will let me send a car out if I can't come myself to pick you up," he spoke I loved how he took control. "I was hoping you would have just stayed with Emily so I could see you more." "I'm thinking about it," Knowing damn well I couldn't stay with my mother for more than a week. "Talk to Miguel see if that's okay with him," I untied my hair letting it flow down in a mass of curly waves," Hey baby I'm about to head into the shower. I was at the beach all day today." "Lucky," I could imagine a grin on his face as he dives into a fantasy of his own," I love you. I'll see you in a few weeks." "I love you more," I blush before hanging up.
