I flashed back into a dragon and took off.  Back to the Edge.  I just wasn't quite ready to leave it.

I stood over the volcano, crying my heart out.  "Whiplash..."  I whispered with a shaky voice.  "I'd have taken your place..."  I leaned closer to the lava.  "if you had let me."  Memories ran through my head - memories of the egg, of baby Whiplash running around Frostflake's back, of Whiplash, saving me from dying of the Shellfire's blast...and deep down I knew I couldn't have done anything differently.

But still,  I thought, grief tearing at my heart.  I should've tried.

"Hey!"  A sharp, female voice barked.  I didn't pay attention to it.  "HEY!"  She barked again.  I spun around with a low growl when a red Singetail landed behind me.

   A Titan Wing red Singetail.

   Krogan's red Singetail.

   Scarlet.

"What do you want?"  I asked bitterly.  "I heard about Whiplash,"  Scarlet said sadly.  "And I'm sorry.  I don't know if he told you, but...he said if anything ever happened to him, to give his baby to you."  Scarlet lifted her tail and revealed a small, baby, red Singetail with small purple spots on him.

"Wha - you - and him -"  I sputtered.  "We were mates,"  Scarlet admitted.  I narrowed my eyes, my confusion rising.  "But - but - how?"  I asked.  "I snuck away every other night to see him and I assume he did the same."  She explained.  I blinked, looking down at the small Singetail.  This was my chance to make things right, to honor Whiplash.  I could raise his daughter like I raised him, and keep her alive this time.  I nodded, and Scarlet gently moved the red baby into my tail.  "Thank you."  She breathed.

I nodded, then carefully moved her onto my back.  I took off and looked at the Edge.

The huts, already starting to be torn apart by the Night Terrors.  I blinked away tears as my eyes crossed over the forests and seas that Frostflake, Whiplash and I had been on countless adventures over.  And now they were gone.  I sighed, and then turned and flew back to Berk.

I'll take care of her, Whiplash.  I promised.  A small whisper far off in Whiplash's voice seemed to say:  I know you will.
