CHAPTER 18

CORA'S POV

He stopped walking when I tightly pulled the hem of his plain black tee. He looked at me, slightly bewildered.

“I can't do it,” I said as I stepped back a bit.

We're in front of Mama and Papa's house. Naduduwag akong pumasok. Pakiramdam ko ay may mangyayaring hindi maganda. Ayoko pa namang makipag-away ngayon dahil pagod ako buong araw sa trabaho.

Hinila akong muli ni Freiya papalapit sa kanya. “You're Corazon Peters, walang kang hindi nakakayang gawin,” he said, trying to muster up my courage and confidence, I guess.

“But, I'm scared—”

He didn't let me finish my word when he jerked his head twice. “Again, you're Corazon Peters, you don't know that word. Scared? Shuta! Patingin nga kung nasa vocabulary mo 'yan.”

And there you go, I smiled. That actually made me feel at ease.

“Kaya tara na, wala kang dapat ikatakot kasi bukod sa hindi mo 'yan alam, nandito naman ako. Sabi ko 'di ba hindi kita iiwan.”

“But you almost did.”

That made him filled with silence for a second. Well, I'm referring to the sh*tty words he said on Glee's birthday. Duh!

“Stop reminiscing the past,” he replied and grabbed me inside with my mouth left hanging in surprise.

Did he just steal my line? What the hell? Unbelievable!

I roamed my eyes around the house when we're finally inside. Do they really have a party? Why the hell this place seemed to be so plain and uneventful? Walang tao, even their maids are nowhere to be found, and where the hell is their visitors? Are they pulling a prank?

“Maling bahay yata ang pinasukan natin, Corazon,” said Freiya.

I shrugged. “Siguro? Pero, matalas ang memorya ko. And it's only been five years since I moved out, hindi ko naman siguro agad makakalimutan ang bahay namin, right? Unless, they made too many changes in the interior design,” I replied.

“Bahay ni'yo yata 'to, may family picture oh, kasali ka.”

I looked at the portrait Freiya pointed. From our eyes filled with mirthfulness down to our lips beaming a smile—all I can see is happiness.

“Ang ganda mo pala talaga, 'no?” he asked.

Tss. Para namang ngayon pa siya, eh maganda naman na ako simula noon hanggang sa susunod na buhay ko.

“Are you envious?"

“Slight.”

And we both giggle in unison. Parang sira. But seriously, where the hell are they?

A door from our left side caught our attention when it suddenly opened. And they went out one-by-one, holding a gold letter balloon.

Rosa's holding a letter I, Paulie with letter M, Jannica with letter S, Tanya with letter O, Mama with letter R, and Papa is holding the last two letters R and Y.
