Erik stands face to face with a tall, blond, muscular jock, they were both staring with such intensity, I was surprised that they both didn't burst into flames. I turn and face the bleachers, scanning the crowds trying to find Kaitlin. I see a little boy with a maroon jersey point at me and shout to his mom,
"That's the ugliest boy I've ever seen." I quickly turn around, a blush forming on my cold cheeks. I don't know whether I should be happy or sad, both I guess. I focus on the referee, who flips the coin through the thick nights air, tension building. I hear Erik's voice shout "Tails!" Which is odd because he always chooses heads. The coin flips to the ground, ricocheting off the turf. Erik, Blondie, and the referee huddle around the coin, all of them leaning over it. Erik jumps back and faces us, pumping his fist. The referee points to us.
"Offense!" He shouts.
I can hear Blondie curse as he walks back to the other team, not before his shoots a glare at us. His eyes squint up as he looks at me. Confusion sweeps over his face as he jogs away. Dread fills my stomach as he talks to one of his teammates, pointing at me. I really hoped that they thought I was just an ugly dude.
"First offense!" Coach shouts, snapping me out of my thoughts. Me and a groups of other guys run into the middle of the field, we get down into position, waiting for the play. I nervously tap my fingers on my knee concreting on Coach as he looks at his laminated sheet of plays. He holds up a number then points to the ground. Got it, I think/hope. I look down at my band, repeating the play over and over in my head. I hear Erik's voice cut through ,then the snap of the ball ,and know that it's game time. I run a fade then turn and face Erik, I'm wide open. Erik pumps the ball towards me them lets it fly to Logan, who's on the other side. Logan snatches the ball and makes it less than 5 yards before he's tackled to the ground. I clench my teeth from screaming out in anger. We get back into position and run another play. I glance at Coach, waiting for the play. He makes a symbol this time with his hands and then points to his hat. I turn my attention back to the ball and wait to head the snap. Erik shouts, then the ball goes flying through the air. I rush forward, blocking the safety as Erik runs by. The safety plows over me, knocking me to the ground, then he falls on me, all 170 pounds if him. But it's to late Erik has ran over 35 yards till he was tackled by Blondie. The safety who is currently sprawled on top of me gets up. He places his hands on my chest to help himself get up. I shove him of off me and he topples to the ground. As I'm standing and brushing my self off a red faced referee sprints towards the home side and points at me.
"Unsportsmanlike action." He shouts pointing at me. The crowd boos and I stare dumbfounded at the striped tomato. That son of a- I'm interrupted by him as he shouts,
"Warning." Fine. I can deal with that. I slump back to the benches trying not to stare anyone in the eyes. Coach and some guys crowd around me and asked what happened.
I stand nervously."Well he put his hands in a spot that I wasn't quite comfortable with so I slapped his hands away and he fell...over." I say. The Coach gives a grunt while the guys chuckle.
2nd QUARTER
We were winning. But not by a lot, we were pulling ahead by a mere 6 points. The other team, the Eagles were on offense and us, defense.
I actually got some pretty good tackles, stopping Blondie, who was the QB, from getting 5 yards. We had less than a minute left, we got this. I jogged to my position and glance at Darius nervously.
"Hey, I'm not gonna let them get to you." He says so only I can hear. I smile ad Darius a quick nod before locking my eyes back onto the ball. A weight lifts of my shoulders, I already fell safer. Blondie snaps the ball and he 2 waiter begins. Darius kept his word. He would take on two linemen, letting me slip outside and tackle the QB. I was happy. The team was happy. The crowd was happy. But it went all downhill after that.
A/N I'm really sorry that this was so short for a long wait. I was going to make it longer but I wanted y'all guys to have something to read. Again I'm really sorry about this. I hope you enjoy and have a great day.
