Helen doesn't tend to paint with blood as much anymore.
Because of the oxidation, the blood turns brown or even black, which causes the painting to look more like a swampy brown mess rather than the masterpiece he intended.
So now he paints with a mixture of dark red paint and blood to get the right color, but still uses plain blood for the scenery sometimes.
