WARNING: TW suicide

After what felt like an eternity later, Romanoff entered the room. Freya still didn't move, she didn't even lift her head.

She just kept on staring at the ceiling, the empty feeling in her spreading through veins and cells, slowly destroying her from the inside.

Romanoff came closer, carefully, maybe scared of another attack. But Freya was too tired anyway.

Without saying a word Romanoff removed the handcuffs and put them in a nightstand next to the bed.

She looks sad, Freya heard her thoughts echo in her head.

Romanoff sat down next to Freya and stares at her, but she ignored her and kept staring at the ceiling.

"Look", Romanoff started, "I don't know you-"

"You don't want to", Freya interrupted her.

"How would you know?"

"Trust me."

Romanoff looked into her empty eyes. "You have lost someone", she said silently.

Freya closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and looked at her. She didn't want to tell Romanoff what she saw in her dream. Freya trusted her more than the others, but still not enough.
"What do you want?", Freya asked with a cracking voice.

Romanoff looked at her like she wanted to ask something, but she decided otherwise and said: "Whatever you want to tell me."

Freya took another deep breath and sat up in the bed.
"I was sent to kill Tony Stark", she finally said.

Romanoff didn't look very surprised.
Freya concentrated on her thoughts and heard: But she saved him. Why?

"I saved him, yes", she answered her unspoken question, "It's hard to explain why."

Romanoff frowned. "You can read minds?"

"Amongst other things, yes."

This time she couldn't hide her surprise very well, but she just said: "Go on." Freya hesitated but then told her.

"This man called Strucker, he made an experiment on me. He made me... this."
Freya pointed at herself.
"For him, I was just a figure that he could use whenever he wants to. He made me do things... terrible things, things I can't forgive myself. But you knew that. You've heard the stories." Freya looked at Romanoff. "When I saved Stark... It was an instinct. My head just told me, it was the right thing. And then, while I was unconscious, I had a dream. I realized that Strucker was the bad one all along. And I was too blind to see that."

Freya looked her in the eyes.
"I don't want to be a servant for a cruel man."

A few seconds of silence.
This Strucker guy, she read Romanoff's thoughts, Do we know him?

Freya waited for her to say something, and finally, Romanoff said: "I appreciate that you told me that."

She stood up.
"What's your name?"

"I said-"

"Your name", Romanoff interrupted her, her voice still soft and not as sharp as Freya expected.

She hesitated, but then said: "Freya Maximoff."

Romanoff nodded. "I am Natasha Romanoff."

"I know", Freya interrupted her.

A grin appeared on Romanoff's face as she walked to the door.
"Follow me, Freya, I will show you your room."

Freya was confused, but she stood up.
"Oh, and you can call me Natasha", Romanoff said as she led her out of the room.
