"Come on guys stop laughing at it it's a nice poem" Ella says and snatched the news article that had the poem in it out of her friends hands they all knew who's it was. Hannah baker

Hannah walked through the hallways and looked down at the ground in embarrassment as the harsh words about her left the surrounding students mouths

Ella frowned angrily as the people around her who she considered to be her friends laughed at Hannah who was also her friend. Ella pushes passed the jocks and made her way over to Hannah

"Hey Hannah?" Ella asks softly but Hannah doesn't respond to her "are you okay?"

"I'm fine" Hannah says harshly and continues to walk down to her locker

"Look Hannah I'm really sorry about what's happening I really liked your poem I thought it was gr-" Ella says with a smile but is cut off by Hannah who' stops walking and faces her

"Look Ella I'm fine okay. Stop asking" Hannah yells and everyone stops whispering and just faces the two girls in shock

"Hannah I'm sorry I j-" Ella was cut off by Hannah again

"Let me guess you were just worried. Sorry doesn't fix everything. God you couldn't possibly be any more annoying could you? I saw you laughing with your friends. Just stay away from me" Hannah yells and Ellas eyes widen she wanted to apologise again but she couldn't get any words to come out of her shaking mouth

Ella began to think back to her dad and how he always yelled at her. Ella was frozen in place while Hannah just stormed off and everyone looked at Ella and shock but no one went up to the girl or said anything until Jeff quickly pushed his way through the crowd and grabbed onto ellas arms softly

"Hey come on let's get out of here" Jeff says to her and brings her head onto his shoulder and she lets out quiet sobs

"Oh my god. Why did I have to be such a bitch, I don't know what I did but I really upset her" Ella mumbles

"There's nothing till see here" Jeff says to everyone around them and glares at them so that they quickly move to their next class "with the rate that news spreads around this school I would say it wouldn't be too long until Montgomery gets here"

"Hey I heard what happend that fucking Hannah baker girl is going to pay" Jeff and Ella head and see Montgomery running toward them and Jeff hands Ella over to Montgomery

"Thanks for looking after her man. Truely" Monty says and nods over at Jeff with a small smile then grabs the girls face in his hands "are you okay. Don't let what that girl said to you go to that pretty little head of yours okay"

"I'm fine monty don't be mad at her, she's got a lot of stuff going on right now" Ella sighs and Montgomery places a kiss on her forehead and then presses their foreheads together

"I'm gonna get to class guys see ya. Ella I'll see you later alright. Don't get into to much trouble" Jeff says awkwardly as he watches the couple share affection and he couldn't help but feel jealous. He wanted to be the one that was comforting her and he wanted to be the one that close to her. But she wasn't his

"Bye jeffy I'll see ya later. I love you" she calls out and waves to the boy and then cuddles into Montgomery's chest with a calm smile on her face

"Love you too Ellie belly" he calls out and then goes to class

"I've got to get to English class before the teacher gets there" Ella mumbles and kisses him on the lips quickly and then adjusts the bag that was hanging over her shoulder "I'll see you at lunch okay. Love you"

"Love you too princess" he mumbles and watched her with a soft smile as she ran to her class but anger owed through him at the thought of someone talking to his girl like that. He wanted to punch her, he didn't care that Hannah was a girl. But he knew Ella would he couldn't understand why Ella cared for the girl but he made it his reason and will to stay calm and try and stay away from the baker girl

Ella walked into her English class and sat down in her usual seat between Justin and Zach and it was obvious to her that the two boys were in a good mood

"Well boys what's got you looking all cheery" Ella asks with a grin as she sits down and her and Justin do a little secret handshake that they had made up when they were kids

"Just a little poem that's gone flying around" Justin said and laughed as he leant back into his chair and Ella rolled her eyes

"Well that sounds real exciting" Ella says sarcastically

Hannah walks into the class and Ella looks up at her with an unreadable expression and Hannah avoids making eye contact with her

"It's her handwriting I can recognise it" Jessica says  to Courtney and Hannah looks over at them

"Why would she write something like this" Courtney asks completely oblivious to the fact that Hannah was standing behind them "so humiliating"

"Or maybe she just likes sharing things about herself and doesn't use other people to hide things about themselves. I think you can guess who I'm aiming that at Courtney" Ella says to defend Hannah and Courtney looks at Ella with wide eyes and a nervous laugh

"I don't know what you are talking about Ella" Courtney says and Ella leans forward in her seat and stares Courtney dead in the eyes

"I think you do. And in pretty sure everyone else in this room does too. Stop using people as your own fucking shield and drawing attention to others to hide your own secrets" Ella says angrily and the whole class was looking at them in shock

"You don't know what you're talking about" Courtney says angrily

"All I know is that one of us is right and the other one is you" Ella says "are you naturally this much of a pain or do you just try"

The class laughs and Courtney turns around with red cheeks while Ella leans back into her chair again and begins to fiddle with a loose string on her  jeans

"It has been brought to my attention that Ryan's publication now includes poetry. And since we are doing sonnets this semester and since your all going to be distracted by it for the rest of the day anyway. I thought that we could take a minute to parse the work of this anonymous poet" the teacher says and begins to open Ryan's magazine

A student in front of the class fake coughs and says "Hannah"  and all of the class except Courtney, Ella and Hannah laugh and Ella elbows her best friends and they stop straight away

"There's a sought of naked vulnerability to it that I really like. It's quite intimate" the teacher says and the class laughs "intimate is not a dirty word. 'Today I am wearing lacy black underwear for the soul purpose of knowing that I am wearing it.... I've got skin. Miles and miles of skin"

Ella watched Hannah in sympathy as the teacher made her way through the poem
