Chapter 44

Ella quickly grabbed her backpack and threw it over her shoulder and then quietly made her way down the stairs quickly before sneaking out of the front door without her after seeing her

"Come on Ella hurry up we're going to be late for school" Montgomery calls out and ella runs over to his car with a smile 

"Like you actually care if we are late for school" ella laughs and notices Scott in the front seat so she opened the door and climbed over him and sat down in between them and gave Monty a quick kiss on the lips "Hey Baby, thanks for picking me up"

"No problem princess, we had to bring scotty, his care is getting fixed at the moment so he will be riding with us for a while" Montgomery tells her and then starts the engine to his blue truck and then starts driving them all to school so ella turns to Scott to start up a conversation with him

"Hey Scotty how baseball going," ella asks the by with a smile. Ella knew that out of all of them, Scott and Zach were the nicest and it was really easy for her and Scott to get along, they had a lot in common and Scott sometimes trained for baseball with Ella and Jeff the year prior. She knew baseball meant a lot to him and he kind of reminded her of jeff 

"it's going good but it has been kinda hard lately with all of the rumors that ar4e going around saying that every player on the team is a fucking rapist," Scott said and whispe4red the last part to her so that Montgomery didn't hear

Scott knew about the boys on the baseball team and that was why he made it his own personal mission to protect the girl and make sure that nothing happened to her but he was sure that none of them would try and lay a finger on Montgomerys girl anyway 

"yeah i have been hearing a few of them, but I've been defending most of you, though there are a few that i haven't really defended" Ella admitted to him but then put a smile on her face and tried to change the subject "well boys, the two of you have a big game coming up soon how do you think it is going to go?"

"We are going to win," Montgomery says cockily with a smirk on his face "We have got the best players and all of us have been training real hard lately, brycie and i have been staying late after school to practice our hits"

Ella frowns at Bryce's name but tries to cover it with a smile "well ill be cheering my boys on from the side"

"Good. nice dude, your, your balance is totally better than it was last week" Zach tells Alex as he and ella stand next to the boy in the water who was sitting on the bike and pedalling 

"you're doing great Alex, at this rate you'll be off those stupid crutches in no time, i would have given up by now and would be sitting on the couch eating churros and ice cream" Ella tells him with a supportive smile but her stomach growled at the though of the amazing food and she cursed herself for mentioning it "Dammit now i really want some fucking churros" She complains and sticks her bottom lip out with a pout and the two boys chuckle softly at her

"I'm dropping you off home so we could stop by somewhere and get you some churros if you want" Zach says and tries to hide the hope and excitement in his vice that he and the girl were back on normal speaking terms "alright Alex, one more big push, we can do this come on"

Alex gets angry and pushes himself away from the water bike and Zach quickly grabs onto him carefully in worry and asks "hey whats going on man?"

"my legs don't work. and my brain doesn't work. my arms hurt. I'm a worthless piece of shit" Alex says and pulls away from Zach 

"Alex dude come on" Zach and ella both say to the boy and they feel their hearts wrenching for the boy who was obviously in a lot of pain 

"NO!" Alex yells at them angrily and they both quickly shut up and look at the boy in shock " its true okay man. i cant help Jessica because i cant remember shit"

"your mem-" Zach starts again but Alex is quick to cut him off again

"and everyone that could help me wont" Alex says angirly 

"Alex come on" ella pleads and looks at the boy

"Your memory will come back" Zach reassures the boy but this just makes Alex even more angry than he was before 

"what are the two of you fucking doctors now?" Alex asks the and gives them both a sharp glare "how do you know that. seriously what the fuck do the two f you even know about what we are going through? Why are the two of you even here. go hand out with the rest of your dumb jock fucking rapist friends and abusive boyfriend" 

Ella feels hurt by his words and she lets out a scoff and begins to swim over to the edge of the pool and Zach follows behind after her

"i still need a lift out of here" Alex tells them as if he hadn't just lost his shit with them and hurt both of their feelings 

"why don't you go and ask your doctor?" Ella tells him sarcastically and lets out a sigh and stops walking, she wasn't going to just leave him in the pool. Zach noticed ella stopping so he stopped too

"what the hell is this? some twisted therapy test" Alex asks 

"and who are you, my mother?" ella laughs sarcastically "look yeah okay we don't know exactly what you are going through . but you have to know that we go through our own shit too okay. okay, we know what it is like to feel like shit is never going to get better"

"everytime that i come home to my empty fucking house i remember that feeling" Zach says and then looks toward ella and looks at the ground and begins to think about her and otny, he felt like that when he saw them together. it felt like shit.

"And everytime i have to sneak through my fucking bedroom window so that my dad doesn't know that I'm fucking home, i get that feeling okay. i got that feeling when my best fucking friend died in my arms in a crushed up car that reaked of alcohol. When my fucking brother left me because he couldn't deal with all of this shit anymore. when one of my best fucking friends decided to kill herself because my dumb ass couldn't show her how important she was to me. I get that same old fucking feeling" Ella tells the boy and the boys just look at her in shock and sadness. the girl had been put through way too much and she didn't deserve a single bit of it

Alex felt clouded with guilt as he looked at the two people who had been helping him get through this and he dealt worried that he had just ruined everything "Zach, ella i forgot"

"And i come here every single day because i remember the last summer. It was PT that helped me through it" Zach says and puts his hands on his hips and stares at Alex 

"I'm really sorry, you know, i could still really use a lift out of here" Alex says and ella and Zach both sigh before walking back towards the pool and getting in and making their way over to Alex to help him out
