The Prayer of the Unfaithful Bride

Forgive my rebellious heart, O Lord
For going against the grain
The joy of Your salvation be restored
And cleanse my guilty stains

For one night I compromised
And cast aside my faith
Forgive me for accepting the lies
Grant I ask, Your grace

I gained all of You; my world
But in the end, lost my soul
Instead of treasuring Your Word
I let in that which makes me unwhole

In the moment of pressing temptation
I accepted my Enemy's substitution
The truth of their hate and treason
I traded for them, against all reason

Your wife has become idolater
And sought the love of an adulterer
I let them carry me far from my lover's home
And now I am imprisoned and bear it alone

Father, Husband; God & Jesus Christ
Against all reason do I ask for Your life
Nothing within is deserving in me
I am bare without payment, for Your mercy

I dare not look up
For shame is my crown
Though I seek Your love
I cannot but look down

Please, if just a servant
And no longer Your Bride
I would be grateful
I would be satisfied

For I have lost my wedding garments
When I eloped long ago
And naked now I only wear
Sin's chains as these clothes

The twisted song that they sung
Appealed to my fire within
And now I am severely burned
By resounding my heart with sin

My heartstrings by my own hand
They have broken
And left a conquered
And enslaved opponent

O my God, against all reason
I ask You to heal, clothe, and cleanse
Forgive me of my unfaithfulness
And treason
Let Your Spirit dwell in me, again

And when sinners entice me
To partake of their lot and bed
May Your grace move me to cry out
Rather than hear and consent

May I understand
Who my true family is
And not seek for happiness
In the same place I lost it

Speechless I have become
While I await for You to assure
That You will grant redemption
Through Your love to make me pure

With shackled hands that restrain
And hold me down to my shame
I ask that You would break
And accept this heart to take

You have set on me
Your sign and seal
I believe; therefore
Will I be healed

Though there is nothing
Pleasing or beautiful in me
May You send Your love
Through Your faithful son

That in Your presence
Is fullness of joy
And at Your right hand
Are pleasures, forevermore
