Faith's whole body was still screaming, but her mind felt worse than dead. They had burned her badly— over and over again— during the endless questioning hours. They wanted to know about the vampires, and didn't believe her when she said she didn't know. So the searing, beating, breaking, choking, it never ended.
Until finally, finally, the first relief Faith had known in her new blind world drifted in on each ragged breath in the form of oblivion.
