Love, is it?

There's something about two kids
who fall in an innocent love,
love that stays even when they're apart.
There's something about the pureness of it,
of the morning sunshine,
the first rays indicating it's time to meet your lover, hold hands
after the school bell rings.
(The only time i looked forward to mornings.)

There's something about your first love,
(no, not the highschool love)
but the one which breaks you,
the one you write your poems about.
Your first heartbreak hurts, right?
You can't believe you cried for a boy
never in a million years.
They say that's what love does to you.
Is it supposed to hurt your chest,
burn your eyes,
stain your cheeks,
or have we allowed it to plunge the knife
twist it,
stab again?
Oh, the bittersweet love songs.
(I think I'm done. No, I can't love again.)

But there's something about his eyes,
his voice,
the way his lips curve into a smile,
is it happening again?
They don't tell you the truth
the beauty, the poetry, the honesty
behind love.
When it's done right,
my idea of sunshine isolates from the sun
and falls into his smile.
(I think I fall with it, too. For you.)
