8 - Adult!Toph x Cop!Reader

As you have probably guessed, this takes place when they're adults, its gonna be a bit sad too

Also I haven't gotten a lot of new requests at the point of writing this so imma write a few for myself too

Prompt: Can you do one where the reader gets hurts on a case working as a police officer on Tophs team. By Trash_Panda05

It was a simple mission. At least it was supposed to be. Go in, detain the bad guys, get to the boss, and done.

But someone sold us out.

I ducked behind a corner as a large blast of lightning got thrown into the hall. Metal armor and lightning do not mix well. Toph stood on the other side of the doorway.

There was no way we were going to make it out of here. They had us surrounded on every side. I ducked to the side as a rock crushed the spot I was just in. The moment it landed it splintered off into tiny little pieces that all headed towards me. I created a rock wall, unable to dodge all of them.

"Y/n!" I heard Toph yell from the other side of the wall. The splintered pieces broke through it. My eyes widened and I covered my face. Thousands of tiny spikes dug into my skin. Most of them were stopped by our armor. But there were parts it didn't cover.

I flew back skidding against the ground. Toph ran over using a shield for cover. "Those damn Terra Triad's. They always play dirty."

I groaned sitting up. Blood drained out of the various cuts scattering my body. They were deep but the stones were still embedded in the majority of them, slowing it down.

"Let's get you up, we can find a way out of here," Toph said. She grabbed my arm and pulled me up. Blood pooled on the ground below me, dripping down my arms. She created a tunnel in the ground, dropping us in. "We haven't even been here 10 minutes and you're already getting injured."

I laughed dryly. "It's a tradition." The blood seeped through the dirt. I winced as the shards dug deeper. My head began to feel lighter. "How much further?" I asked.

"Just a few more feet, this building is huge. But they don't know we're down here. How are you feeling?"

"Wouldn't you know that yourself?"

"Yeah but I need to know how you feel, not just how you feel to me."

"I'm dizzy, and uhm..." I thought for a second. "Everything's just kind of blurry." One of the shards fell out, and more blood poured out of it. Toph mumbled something under her breath.

We continued on, slowly. I couldn't feel the pain anymore, which I wasn't sure if it was good or bad. My clothes were completely soaked in blood. I dropped to the ground. "Toph I don't think I'll make it."

She grabbed my arm and pulled me up. "Don't be stupid, we're not that far."

"No. Toph, I've lost too much blood."

She gritted her teeth. "You're going to live." We went a little further and Toph started raising us to the surface. I winced as the sun shone through the opening.

We were swarmed by other cops and a few waterbenders. "Toph I need to tell you something," I said. I gripped her hand as they pulled us apart. Trying to take me away and heal me in private. I could already feel some water on the wounds.

But I wasn't going to make it.

"You can tell me later."

I could only feel her fingers now. Holding on by the very edge.

"Toph, I love you."

They slipped out of mine as my body went limp.
