Prompt:

Toph x reader. When the gang is in Ba Sing Se, reader gets captured by Dai li and she is brainwashed. You can choose what they do. Either they brainwash her to fear the gang, not know them, make her emotionless etc. Just anything other then there is no war. I would like heavy angst with a happy ending.

The rain poured outside, water thundering down on the roof and splashing against the warehouse window. My plan really wasn't to get kidnapped, much less by the Dai Li who turns out were the enemy all along. Crazy.

"What are we supposed to do? We can't just send her back she'll reveal everything to the Avatar." One of the guards argued.

"Oh so what we're just going to brainwash her like everyone else."

The general stepped forward out of the shadows and smiled at me. I shivered, looking away from him and just about anywhere else. "That's exactly what we're going to do. We can't have her ruining our plans." He nodded to one of the guards and in a second I was knocked out.

The door to my room swung open. "Y/n?" I turned around to see Toph standing there, holding the cell door open with Aang and everyone else behind her. "Y/n! There you are, who did this to you?"

"I don't know," I lied. I knew exactly who did this to me but Toph couldn't know, none of them could. "I just woke up here suddenly, my head is killing me though." I held it, pretending to wince as I reached back for my knife.

Aang tried stepping towards me but Toph held out her arm stopping him. "Wait," she whispered. My facade dropped and I swung out towards them. Toph, or Aang, I don't know which, put up a stone barrier. My blade smacked against it, sparking.

"Y/n what's gotten into you?" They all moved off to the side of the stone, peering in the cell.

"She's been brainwashed, just like the rest of them," Toph said, "I can feel it. Y/n believes every word she's saying."

"What are we going to do?"

"There's nothing you can do," I said. I raised my leg and kicked the stone, it flew back, crumbling against the cave walls and I stepped out of the cell. "I'm working on behalf of the Dai Li, you're not ruining their plans, Aang." I held the blade up, pointing at him. A tendril of water snaked up, grabbing my wrist and pulling me down the ground, freezing and locking my arm in place.

"You guys go, I'll take care of her," Aang said.

"Are you dumb? It's you she wants, I'll take care of her," Toph retorted, shoving Aang down the hallway.

I pulled my arm out of the ice, sending shards skittering across the floor. "Don't make it harder than it has to be Toph. Just give me the Avatar and I'll leave. We'll leave together in fact, just you and me, that's what you want, isn't it?"

She frowned and cracked her knuckles. "I don't want to hurt you Y/n."

"Funny, because that's exactly what I'm trying to do." I adjusted the grip on my knife and lunged at her.

She dodged backwards and sent a slab of stone at me, sending me flying into the bars of the cell. "I don't want to but that doesn't mean I wont."

I growled and pushed myself off of the bars, grabbing my knife off the floor. The floor around me began to rumble, and we shot up through the ground and up to the surface, jutting into the walls surrounding the city. "Great."

Toph threw more boulders my way, I dodged them, or blocked them with my own earthbending, attempting to slowly make my way closer to her. As soon as I was close enough I grabbed her wrist, flipping her down to the ground. She swept my leg out from underneath me and I fell to the ground with a dull thud. Toph stood up, towering over me. "No wait! Toph it's me it's really me!"

She raised an eyebrow. "You know I can tell when you're lying, right?"

"I didn't need you to believe me, I just needed you distracted." I grabbed my knife and hooked my leg around hers, she fell to her knees and I held the knife to her neck.

"Don't do this Y/n," she said. She didn't seem afraid but I knew better.

"Do what, this?" I shoved her off the side of the wall. Toph shrieked as her feet left the ground and she began plummeting to the ground. I turned away from her, holding my head, I wasn't lying about it hurting.

Blood dripped down, and when I pulled my hand away I could see even more of it staining my palm, though it wasn't that much in general, I'd be fine. The pain got worse though, and I fell to my knees as what was a dull ache quickly turned into my head splitting open.

I screamed in pain. Toph! No no no no no! What have I done?!

I rushed over to the side of the of the wall, she was only about halfway down. I quickly pulled out part of the wall from under her, stopping her fall. I can't even be sure she survived, this is all my fault. I jumped down, occasionally stopping my fall until I made it to the platform she was on.

"Toph! Toph my god answer me!" I leaned over her, gently shaking her. "No no come on. Toph!"

She stirred, "would you shut up my head is killing me."

I hugged her. "You're alive!" She groaned. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to hurt you I didn't know what I was-"

She stopped me, placing a hand against my mouth. Toph weakly hugged me back, "you don't need to explain. I'm just glad to have you back."
