I recommend listening to the song while reading this to get the feels :)

-----

"There once was a bittersweet man and they called him..."

Tubbo paused and thought deeply for a moment. "Lemon Boy"

He delicately plucked a few loose strands of weed from the soil.

"He was growing in my garden and I pulled him out by his hair like a weed"

He stifled a cold laugh and wiped a tear away from his eye.

"And like all weeds do he only came and grew back again"

Tubbo took off his gardening gloves, covered with dirt, and let out a shaky breath.

"So, I figured this time I might as well let him be"

He smiled as a nice memory weaved it's way into his mind.

"Lemon Boy and me started to get along together"

His anxiety was starting to show, but it didn't matter.

"I helped him plant his seeds and we'd mow the lawn in bad weather"

He let his problems flow throughout his body, letting them run loose and grow.

"It's actually pretty easy being nice to a bitter boy like him"

He swayed along to the tune he was humming.

"So, I got myself a citrus friend"

Tubbo frowned as more thoughts made their way into his head.

"But soon, his bittersweet started to rub off on me, you'd think smelling lemon zest would be pretty neat"

His brows furrowed even more as he tasted the dichotomy between the sweetness and bitterness lingering on his tongue.

"I found out that my friends are more of the savoury type, and they weren't too keen on compromising me with a nice lemon pie"

He sniffled as he recalled the bad memories of being laughed at, and soon started to silently cry to himself.

"So Lemon Boy and me, we just gotta get along together"

Tubbo grinned wistfully as he heard the familiar voice ringing through his ears.

"I'll help him plant his seeds and we'll mow the lawn in bad weather"

The blonde behind him chuckled.

"It's actually pretty easy being nice to a bitter boy like him"

Tubbo finally turned to face the other.

"So, I got myself a citrus friend"

Tommy stepped forward and placed a hand out, and Tubbo made a move to take it, but faltered.

"But what if I run out of fertilizer, what if the clouds run out of rain?"

The taller's gaze softened, but his hand never retracted.

"What if Lemon Boy won't grow no longer, what if beaches dry of sugarcane?"

Tommy suddenly found a spark of hope, and beamed.

"Oh well"

Tubbo gazed up from the ground, and looked into his friend's eyes to search for what he meant. He understood, and accepted his hand.

"The whales start to beach themselves, the tortoise shells tear away from their spines"

Tommy's smile grew bigger, as did his trusted friend's.

"It happens all the time, it happens all the time"

Tubbo grinned genuinely for the first time in years, and engulfed the other in a hug.

"Lemon Boy and I, we're gonna live forever"

Tommy chuckled at the silly thoughts he was thinking.

"Like Snufkin and Little My, we'll get around wherever"

Tubbo giggled, and repeated his previous line more enthusiastically.

"Lemon Boy and I, we're gonna live forever"

Tommy placed his chin on his friend's shoulder.

"Like Snufkin and Little My, we'll get around wherever"

A single tear of acceptance slid down the brunette's face.

"It's actually pretty easy being nice to a bitter boy like him"

Tommy squeezed the other lightly, smiling to himself.

"Cause we're the bitterest boys in town"

Tubbo laughed, anxiety filling his whole body now, but he welcomed it.

"Yeah, we're the bitterest guys around"

They planned on staying like that for a very, very long time.

"And I got myself a citrus friend."
