BLACK MARK

Nang makabalik kami ni Mavro ay naglakad ako papunta sa cubicle na kinaroroonan ni Maureen upang bisitahin siya. I heard she's still unconscious.
Nakasalubong ko si Dr. Robert na sakto rin na papunta sa kwarto ng dalaga. Nakasuot ito ng lab coat na pinaiilaliman ang dark blue polo na naka-tucked in sa kulay itim niyang jeans. Katulad ng dati ay nakasuot sa kanya ang bilugan niyang salamin.
"Kumusta na po siya, sir?"
"She still hasn't gain consciousness and the dark marks are spreading," sagot niya nang makapasok kami sa loob ng cubicle.
Nilapitan ko ang katawan ni Maureen at sinuri ang kalagayan niya. She's wearing a white hospital gown while she's lying on the bed, unconscious. Some medical equipment is attached to her body. It is true that the black mark has spread all over her body. I can see it on her arms, hands, and even on her neck. Sa pagkakaalala ko, tanging ang batok lamang niya ay mayroon kagabi.
"Is this bad?"
Tumango ang doktor at tsaka huminga nang malalim. "I ran blood tests on her. Her blood contains a substance similar to tetrodotoxin which can be found from a pufferfish. It is not tetrodotoxin but the effect is the same—it paralyzes the victim. Tetrodotoxin can kill in only 24 hours or even 20 minutes. This substance, I don't know. The concentration of the poison in her blood is quite alarming as it is really high," mahabang paliwanag nito.
"Is the dark mark the source of that substance?"
"Yes, and I'm afraid she will die when these marks cover all parts of her body completely. Follow me to my office. I'll show something to you," sabi nito at nagsimula nang maglakad palabas kaya't sumunod ako sa kanya papalabas ng cubicle.
"How about the rate of the mark spreading?"
"0.017 centimeters per second." It is quite fast. 1.02 centimeters per minute.
"How about the healers? Their healing abilities are not effective?"
"Unfortunately, we cannot do anything. Our abilities are not taking effect on her body. But don't worry, princess. We will solve this problem as soon as possible."
Tumigil kami sa harap ng isang kulay puting pinto na mayroong nakalagay na Head Physician's Office. Pumunta siya sa gilid at binuksan ang isang drawer. Bumalik siya dala ang isang kulay puting folder. Umupo siya sa upuan niya at binuklat ito.
"This is your medical records." Iniabot niya sa akin ang folder kaya't nakita ko ang mga nilalaman nito. Sinuri ko ito at nakita ko ang pamilyar na itsura ng itim na marka sa braso at binti ng prinsesa.
"Those marks were also seen on your body after that incident three years ago."
"If that's the case, why didn't I die? The spreading rate is high. I doubt my body will last three years fighting it," naguguluhang sabi ko.
"The rate of the black mark is slower before. Another thing is, something inside your body fights the deadly effect of that substance. I believe it reduced its effect. Those marks only caused you to go into a coma. And I know that now, the substance causing the black mark has been enhanced since it is faster and more deadly."
"Why don't you test my blood for antibodies," suhestiyon ko.
"I already did. I have your latest blood sample. The problem is, your blood components are normal. We cannot find anything from your blood sample which can help."
Nagpakawala ako ng isang malalim na hininga. This is getting out of hand.
"Diseases are harder to treat when it is accompanied by magic, by dark magic to be exact," sabi nito at tsaka isinandal ang ulo niya sa headrest.
