The world would perhaps be a better place
with us uplifting each other,
with people at their best
sharing love and possibility.
The world would perhaps be a better place,
with us understanding each other,
with people at their most honest,
sharing gratitude and sincerity.
But would it really be a better place
without knowing sorrow and deceit;
to appreciate the bounties of love
at the hands of futility?
Perhaps the world wouldn't really be a place
without the bad taking a load off the good,
if only people were to know what light was
without the dark of negativity...
