Knock knock knock

"Mom?"

Donna frowned when she heard no response and slowly started edging the door open

"Mom are you awake?"

She walked in and smiled when she saw her mother passed out on the bed with a wet towel over her head. She walked to the half unpacked suitcases and finished unpacking then ordered room service. After a few minutes she heard faint moaning sounds from the bed and crossed her arms awkwardly as Ruby pulled the towel off her face

"Oh it's you"

"Yup.....me"

"Can you maybe get me some aspirin?"

"Yeah sure...I ordered some dinner....you need to eat something or that headache is gonna get worse"

"I don't need you to take care of me"

"I'm not.....I want to be here.....we haven't spent time together since I was a teenager"

Ruby nodded and sat up against her headrest

"We've been invited to the opening party for the hotel tomorrow"

Ruby instantly perked up at this making Donna roll her eyes

"Good thing I always pack for a party"

"Please be subtle"

"Donna do you even know who you're mother is?"

"Ofcourse.....how could I not when it's been thrown in my face since I was born"

Ruby frowned, "Excuse me?"

"Nothing"

A knock at the door interrupted the awkward conversation, Donna went to open the door and smiled at Helen

"Hi....sorry for the inconvenience my mother isn't feeling well"

"Oh no problem at all.....would you like me to set it up for you?"

"No no thank you I'll manage.....have a good night"

"Goodnight dear"

Donna smiled as Helen walked away and pushed the food trolley into the room

"What are we eating?"

"I just ordered some burgers and fries"

"Junk food Donna really?"

Donna smiled knowing her mother would have something to say about her choice of food this evening

"Yes.....and we don't waste food so get up and dig in"

Ruby raised her eyebrows and found herself obeying her daughter's order

"I can't tell if we've ever sat down and shared a meal let alone burgers....I remember how empty our fridge always was because you were on a constant diet"

".......and I hated cooking.....still do"

"It's a shame cause you were actually quite good at it.....you made me dinner sometimes but never joined me to eat it"

Ruby shrugged and started eating her fries

"God this is actually so good"

"Told you so"

"I haven't eaten a burger since I was thirty"

Donna gasped and sat back, "Why?"

Ruby chuckled and shook her head at her daughter's shocked reaction
