" HEART ACHE. "

cosmopolitan, 3:03am.

y/n sat in her seat amongst her group of friends at the poker table, her thoughts blank after the strange occurrence 3 hours ago.

normally her thoughts were twisting and turning; suffocating her with their whispers that had disturbed her throughout the game.

the confusion and hurt drove her insane, jungkook was her closest friend, yet he hated her at this very moment.

the girl wanted to get rid of these terrible thoughts but also wanted to keep them tucked deep inside so she could make things right.

the stress you get from the media, from anything, is a bit like running too many files on a computer. it slows things down, stops you from being able to do what you need to do.

when you learn how to empty your mind it's like going back up to full processing speed. so, though we call it mindfulness, it's really mind-emptiness, or mind-calmness.

that's when you get to be in control and reach your full potential. those things that make you afraid and distracted, push everyone away when you don't mean to.

jungkook tightened his grip around the glass of champagne in his hand, feeling the need to crush it into pieces to relieve the weight on his shoulders.

as much as he wanted to storm out of the championship tournament, he knew he couldn't.
it was a warzone between the pure truth and twisted lies that y/n held.

he didn't know if lashing out on her like that was the best choice, because surely it didn't him feel any better.

y/n lost her focus with the previous games but for the finale, she won the big pot with all her friends sighing in their seats.

"anyone up for the club?" her brother stood up, fixing his outfit as felix and jaemin waved him over.
"count me in..."

"yeji? oh come on, don't be boring." felix chuckled before helping her up from the chair.
there was obviously some kind of connection between the two, because they were closer than ever.

even y/n was convinced they were more than just friends.
"you comin' lil sis?"

"im exhausted, go have fun guys.."
yeonjun looked at his sister in suspicion but shrugged it off, yearning for a drink to relieve his sore muscles as he left with everyone following behind.

"clique."
"no, blue ribbon." the men bickered amongst themselves while indulging in the menu of cosmopolitan that had their restaurant and lounge collection.

"jeon? what do you think?" namjoon asked his friend.
"aye, you've been spaced out the whole night, what's up with you?" he sat down beside jungkook who held an expressionless face.

"nothing, you guys go do your thing... might stay for a full house or two." he refilled his glass with the ace of spades champagne.

his friends abandoned the table as he shooed off the dealer, letting her know that he would be fine and would prefer to be alone.

jungkook slouched back in his seat, seemed almost to fall into it and typed on his phone as the wine took its consequence on his clouded mind.

the woman is sitting only a few feet away at her empty table, legs crossed and fingers intertwined over one knee. y/n leaned forward and watched the man, his brows furrowed.

disregarding how upset he felt with her, jungkook couldn't help but look up to see y/n already looking at him with her doe eyes.

when their eyes lock over the poker tables, the soft expressions of only a few months ago have evaporated from jungkook's eyes.

the eye contact didn't remain for long, he downed the last of the champagne before looking back down to his lap and pulled out his wallet from his pocket - counting through the green bills.

jungkook stood up and placed an $80 tip on the wine bar stand, removing his outer suit layer from the chair before tossing it over his shoulder, sparing her one last glance, and leaving the tournament room.

y/n's eyes followed him until his figure faded in the pool of bodies walking back and forth. the stench of rich perfume, cigarettes, and cologne lingering in the atmosphere that comforted her heart ache.
