The leaky Cauldron was quiet this night. I sat quietly at the bar waiting for my second cut of butterbeer. 3 chairs down from me sat an old man. His robes were raggedy and he reeked of alcohol. Behind me sat a group of middle age men. They were all huddled close looking as though they didn't want to be heard.
"2 Sickles please" the waiter said as she held out her hand for me. I placed 2 sickles inside her palm and thanked her.
The Leaky Cauldron's quiet atmosphere quickly changed. The door was abruptly swung open. Girly giggling filled the room. I rolled my eyes at looked at who disturbed the peace.
A group of 3 girls came in. Out of the 3 one particular girl caught my eye. Tho they were all dresses in unusually sparkly and short dresses. Hers looked the best. It was black. Her dress stopped mid thigh. Her hair fell perfectly over her shoulders complementing her exposed skin. I knew who she was though. I know who all Mudbloods at Hogwarts are and she was in the same year as me. Although i never noticed her before in those bare Hogwarts robes, her new sparkly little black dress made her stand out and if it's my little secret...I don't hate Mudbloods as much as I reputation shows. The 3 girls sat a table down from the suspicious group of men.
The waiter who previously served me walked over with 3 butterbeers. I tried not to stare to much.
Two girls soon became one. After saying their goodbyes the two unnoticed girls left.
The movement of chairs behind me caused me to turn around. The group of men disbanded and two decided to sit at her table.
She looks displeased and uncomfortable. Shifting in her seat and shooing them away they didn't leave.
Knowing what kind of sick men lurk around Diagon Alley at this time of night I asked the waiter for another 2 cups of butterbeer.
I handed her 4 Sickles and walked over to the girls table.
"See I told you Love I'd let you have your space with your friends. I only sat over there by myself for 30 minutes for you. Anyway I got you a butterbeer. Are these men bothering you?"
I placed the butterbeers down on the table. She looked up at me confused but played along with it.
"Oh why yes. They just won't seem to get the hint and go away" she smirked.
Something about the way she smirked made me feel a certain way inside. Her smirk only brought out mine.
I looked at the men, who looked increasingly scared.
I bet they knew who my father was.
"Do I need to do something? Why are you still sitting here?" I snapped at them. They gulped
"Give Mr. Malfoy our regards. We mean no trouble. We were just making sure this little one was safe." The first man with brunette hair and a pretty nasty eye twitch said.
"Good now leave....please." I smiled.
The men left and I sat down across from her. She took her cup of butterbeer. She took a sit out of the cup of butterbeer I brought her. She got a little bit on top of her lip and to my surprise it was cute.
She wiped it away and stared at me.
"Well...Draco Malfoy is it? Fancy seeing you here and helping me. Merlin's beard what alternate universe did I enter?" She rolled her eyes.
"A simple thank you would have sufficed" I sarcastically smiled "why are you dressed like that?"
I asked her. She causally bit her lip.
"You wouldn't understand...your a Pureblood." She pronounced the P aggressively.
I could tell she was different from most Mudbloods I've met. She didn't automatically attack me...which I guess I'm happy about.
I cause a lot of controversy at school with my reputation and "hatred" towards Mud- Muggleborns. I really should stop using the slur. Truth was at school I made myself the Draco Malfoy my parents wanted to see.
"I could try to understand." I suggested. Her eyes lit up with excitement.
"Well muggles throws these things called collage parties it's much like what we do but better. They have different music and flashing lights and....wait. Why are you being so nice to me?" She stopped mid sentence "why am I even ranting about muggle things to you?"
I sighed. "I know. Draco Malfoy hates mud- Muggleborns. I don't actually."
She raised her eyebrows. She leaned back in her chair.
"So I'm not filthy and disgusting?" She asked.
I shook my head "no"
"I don't believe you. Why are you so cruel and mean all the time then? I mean people hate you..like really hate you." She laughed.
I didn't know people hated me except Potter and his goons. They don't count but I guess I figured other people disliked me but hate is a strong word.
"It's a persona love"
"It's a pretty dumb one love"she mocked me.
I rolled my eyes.
"Don't call us friends but do you wanna get out of here?" She asked me.
I didn't quite understand what we would get out of here and do but I agreed.
We left the Leaky Cauldron together and wondered into the dark Diagon Alley. Making sure to stay away from knockturn alley. Not even my family status could save me in there if I was alone without my actually family.
She zigzag walked up the alley humming an unfamiliar song out loud. Every time she hummed a certain part of the song she twirled under the moonlight.
I soon realized I never got her name.
"Hey!" I called out to her. But as she turned around her face lost color. Her eyes widened with fear.
She ran towards me.
"Shut up" she said and she grabbed my arm and pulled me into an empty alley between shops.
She pressed her back flat against the wall and I peaked out of the alley to see what she was hiding from. Fenrir Greyback and two other unfamiliar people stood outside the Leaky Cauldron.
Death Eaters? My face filled with questions.
Her hand was still around my arm. Her grip tightened as she pulled me further back.
"Down here"
She pulled me deeper into the empty dark alley.
Once she stopped pulling me. She sat on the floor behind a trashcan and pulled her knees up to her chest. She ran her hands thought her hair. I could tell she was breathing heavily.
"Who are you? Why are you hiding from Death Eaters?" I asked her.
She looked up at me with wide eyes. She jerked herself towards me and covered my mouth with her hand.
"Shhh" she whispered.
With she free hand she pointed towards the alley entrance.
Fenrir Greyback was looking into the alley. His nose was sniffing the air.
"I gotta get outta here" she whispered.
An idea popped into my head.
"Come to Malfoy Manor with me" I whispered back.
She looked up at me with an scared expression but before she had the chance to answer I grabbed her arm and disapparated.
We landed in front of Malfoy Manor. Home sweet home. I didn't think my plan through, with my Father being a Death Eater, and her being a Muggleborn. It's risky.
I pulled her up to the front doors and unlocked them. I opened them and I told her to shh.
"You see those stairs. Quietly go up them and down the hall. The first room on the right is my room. I need to distract my parents."
She nodded and headed up the stairs.
I walked into the grand living space. The chandelier shined dim and my father sat at the very end of the room in front of the fireplace.
"Draco sweetie...your home" my mother's voice echoed from behind me. I turned around and gave her a small smile. I knew my father wouldn't be happy with how late I stood out today.
"Come here Draco." He called to me. I gulped and slowly walked towards him.
I stood 2 feet in front of him and stared at him.
He looked at me and stood up.
He placed the end of his cane on my shoulder.
"Do you know how late it is?" He sternly asked me.
"Yes father. I'm sorry father" I apologized.
"That's not enough"
Suddenly I felt something hit the side of my face. My mother whimpered from behind me. My hand involuntary cover my cheek. I stayed leaned over for a second before removing my hand. The sight of red smeared on my hand scared me. My heart started racing. I hesitantly looked up at my father.
"Straighten up boy" he yelled at me. I quickly got up ignoring the screaming pain in my cheek. He had hit me with his cane.
He walked towards me and gripped my neck. His cold hand tightened around it. His face less than an once from mine. I dared not to look but to stare at the wall.
"Sorry isn't enough Draco. Do you think The Dark Lord accepts sorry?"
"No father" I answered him.
A lump in my throat started to build up.
"Don't be a disgrace to the Malfoy name. Do you understand? Discipline Draco discipline." He whispered in my ear.
"Yes father. I understand. I won't disgrace the family name." I answered.
"Good. Now run along" his grip on my neck loosened. I felt the end of his cane meet my back which meant to leave.
I kept my head down while walking past him and my mother. She placed a gently hand on my shoulder
and called my name but I didn't look up.
I walked up the starts and down the hall. I opened the door to the first room on the right.
The girl sat on the edge of my bed.
"You have really soft sheets" she told me before looking up. When she finally looked up at her her eyes widened and she gasped.
"What happened? Are you okay?"she stood up from my bed and asked
"Nothing I'm fine" I told her. She could tell I didn't want to talk to her about it or open up. So she dropped it but I could tell she cared.
"Um would you like a change of clothes? I have some?" I asked her.
She nodded and I walked over to my wardrobe. I pulled out the smallest clothes I had. I didn't own much clothes that would fit her. I grabbed her my old Quidditch sweater from 2nd year and I also grabbed an old pair of pants from I don't know how long ago but they looked like they would fit her.
I threw the clothes on the bed and she grabbed them.
She went to take off her dress but stopped.
"Umm...excuse me" she looked at me.
"Oh yes I'm sorry" I turned around. I heard the sound of moving fabric and clothes hitting the floor.
"You can turn around" she said.
She looked better in my clothes than I did. She held her black dress in her hands.
"You can put that over there" I pointed to an empty chair at the end of my room. She folded her dress and placed it neatly on the chair. She came back and sat at the edge of my bed again. I sat next to her.
"Why are you running from Death Eaters?"I asked.
She sighed.
"My parents have something you-know-who wants...and when he found out they didn't have what he was looking for, he looked for me. I was with my grandmother at the time and when he found me he killed her. I managed to get away very slimy." She told me.
"And your parents. Aren't they worried about you and where you are?" I asked her.
"Yeah....if they were alive."
We sat in silence.
"I'm sorry" I told her.
"It's okay. There's nothing I can do about it. So why not party with friends and throw away what's actually going on in the world and try and forget about everything." She gave me a small smile.
"I never got your name." I told her.
"It's y/n."
I smiled at her.
"I know we just met but I'm not as bad as I seem. I'm not like my father. I'm sorry for anything I've probably done or said to you in the past or anything I've said about Muggleborns. I- I was just being an twat." I apologized to her.
"It's okay. Although you should really apologize to Hermione..She holds grudges." Y/n laughed. It was the cutest laugh I've ever heard. It was a contagious laughter until she yawned. Then I yawned.
"We should go to sleep" I suggested "my parents don't know your here and they can't. So in the morning please don't leave this room."
"Don't worry I won't" she said.
I uncovered my sheets for her. She slid her body up my bed and under the sheets. She stared at the ceiling. I pulled out sleep clothes from my wardrobe and threw them on. I smiled and walked back into the empty chair next to the one with her dress on it. I turned of the lights I sat in the chair.
It was comfortable but I don't think I was going sleep good on it.
"Goodnight" we said to each other.
The moonlight shined through my curtains lighting up my room is various places.
"Draco..?" I heard y/n voice from my bed.
"Yes" I hummed.
"You don't have to sleep there." She said. "I don't mind"
I could heard the smile on her face and a smile grew on mine.
I got up from the chair happy to be sleeping in my bed. I slide under the cover with her.
I sighed as I got comfortable.
As I laid in the bed I started to hear y/n's soft breathing. I felt her shift closer to me. She sunk into my side and she placed her head under my arm.
I held her close.
I got lost in the sound of her breathing.
I wanted to protect y/n from the Death Eaters and The Dark Lord.
At this moment I didn't care who I was. Who he was. Who she was. What my last name was. She been going to Hogwarts as long as I have and I'm mad at myself for never noticing her. She was the good in my life. For the few hours I've been with her, she's made me smile more than anything. I wouldn't mind her being in my life a little longer.
I slowly drifted to sleep.
