Uncomfortable

After Rick questioning whether or not to make the journey to the Kingdom, he agrees for him and his group to go. He's not thrilled with you going, since he doesn't trust you and you seem to have bad luck. However, you continue to walk with the rest of them out of the gates of Hilltop towards their Durango.

While walking you fall to the back of the group, you know you're not wanted and you think staying out of their way is the best. You keep your eyes on the ground, just following where they go.

"Hey." You lift your eyes and turn your head slightly to see the girl you don't know walking next to you.

Your eyes slightly widen, "Uh, hi?"

"I'm Tara," she slightly smiles at you, "and you must be (Y/N)."

"How do you know me?"

"It's hard not to know about the girl that everyone back home is talking about." You glance over at her with questioning eyes, "Your brother was taken by Negan and you were told you had to stay at Hilltop for him. Plus you created a ruckus while you were at Alexandria with you arguing with Rick and you leaving and being brought back injured."

"They know all of that, huh?"

"I guess," her eyes drift to the ground, "I just got back a few days ago, heard all about you and the other saviors, along with the fact that my girlfriend is dead."

You put your hand on her shoulder as you walk a little slower, "I'm sorry to hear that." You drop your hand from her shoulder as she glances at you, "I don't know if I knew her, I don't know many people at Alexandria, but losing someone is hard so I'm sorry."

She wipes her cheek as she looks away from you and says; "You knew her." You quickly look over at her, "She's the one that fixed your knee," your eyes widen, "Denise."

You stop in your tracks as your wide eyes look to the ground. She was so nice, so brave, so intelligent. Your mind thinks about how you talked to her in the small times that Jesus didn't go to the infirmary building to see you. You blink black your tears and look up to see Tara standing a little way in front of you facing you.

"How-" you wipe a tear before it goes down your face, "-how did she die?"

"One of Negan's men killed her with an arrow to the head, right in front of Daryl and Rosita."

"What was the guy's name?"

"Dwight." She gives you a confused look, "Why?"

You start walking again, as you pass her you say; "If I know him and I see him, I was gonna kill him."

"Do you know him?" Tara asks you as she takes a quick step to start walking beside you again.

"No." You lie and continue walking.

As you walk you remember the last time you saw Negan and how he teased you with details about your brother. 'How is my brother?' You had asked a little while before he started listing ways his life was better with the saviors. 'He found himself a good place among the men. He even has a few men that do bidding for him, so he doesn't have to get his hands dirty. My boy Dwight has taken him under his wing and they have become pretty good friends.' You had seen Dwight before, he had new burns on the side of his face when you saw him. Negan had told you that he broke a rule and that was his punishment. When you showed fear, Negan told you not to worry he could never do something like that to a woman least of all you. In the end, you were still bothered by what Negan did and how he dealt with things, but you were grateful he hadn't done anything like that to your brother and he would never do it to you.

. . .

Everyone piles into the Durango. Jesus in the driver seat, Rick demanding to sit in the front, you in the backseat in-between Daryl and Michonne, with Carl, Rosita, and Tara in the very back.

You don't feel very comfortable in between  Michonne and Daryl, but you were the smallest, and your knee felt the best when it was slightly bent. Your legs are closest to Daryl, with your right leg diagonally in front of his. You could tell Michonne didn't like you just by how she looked at you when any part of your body touched her, accidental or not. So, every chance you got you moved closer to Daryl and amazingly he didn't mind. In the short extent of silence at the beginning of the ride, you hadn't noticed that Daryl's left hand had worked its way behind you and is resting on your left hip just out of sight from anyone. As time passes, his hand becomes comforting, especially when Rick's voice breaks the silence within the vehicle.

"Tell me about where Negan lives." Is all he says as he looks over to Jesus.

Jesus glances over at Rick but immediately puts his eyes back onto the road. "What do you want to know?"

"Everything." Rick turns his head forward once more and looks out at the road in front of them.

"Alright." Jesus breathes.

You listen intently as Jesus describes the building and the fences that have walkers attached to them. Also, how there are guards all along the fences and some in the upper levels of the building making it difficult to get within its fences undetected.

"How did you get through the fences then?"

Jesus stays silent for a moment. He hadn't had a chance to talk to you about your brother helping him, and he wasn't sure how Rick would react to it. "There's a whole in the guard posts, towards the back of the building where they keep their vehicles." Jesus swallows hard, it's not a lie but it's not fully the truth either, "That was my way in and both of our ways out."

Rick doesn't know Jesus well enough to tell when he's lying, but you do. You know not a full lie just by him trying to look at Rick when he says it. But you know that it's not the whole truth by how Jesus grips onto the steering wheel as he continues to drive towards the Kingdom.

"How much farther?" Rick asks impatiently, breaking your train of thought.

"Well, technically, we're already here." Rick looks over at Jesus with a questioning look, which makes Jesus elaborate. "I mean, we're always here, but here we are-" Jesus slowly stops the vehicle, "at the Kingdom." Rick and Jesus get out of the Durango and Rick looks around at the empty buildings around him, "Well, its outer edge."

You stay crawl out of the Durango on the same side as Daryl and follow him as he walks around to the other side of it. You see Jesus just standing outside the Durang, partially leaning on it. While everyone else sits inside the Durango very impatient at the fact that they are just sitting around.

"Hey," Daryl starts to holler, "what the hell are we waitin' on?"

"We're waiting for them." You smile as you see two members of the Kingdom's guard riding their way towards all of you on horseback.
