25. The Prom

<Jake had always wanted to go to the Formal>

Jay: Hey Jake, did you get a date for the Prom yet?  If not, why don't we go together?

Jake: I was going to ask this girl in my math class, but another boy beat me to it.  Who is SH going with?

Jay: He has the pick of the campus.  But he doesn't care to go, he hates the social dancing and doesn't want to be crown prom king.  The popular girls ask him every year, but he always finds some excuse to skip it.

Jake: Sounds like him.  Okay.  I guess you're my date then Jay.

Jay: Great, as long as you don't expect me to make out with you.  And I don't want you to be fantasying about me without my knowledge. <chuckles, but serious>

Jake: <Not sure how to respond to that> You're funny Jay, but rest assure, you're not my type.

<At the dance>

Jay: <heads to the food table to munch and chat away with the girls> Hey, ladies, you're all looking mighty pretty, may I say. All dolled up like this, is just my style. <the girls giggle thinking Jay sounds gangsta in English and an ajumma in Korean.> 

Jake: <just walking, watching everyone and spots the girl from math, and goes over to chat> Hi, you look really nice in that dress, it's very pretty. 

<she thanked him, and they chatted for 5 mins, until her date return, to ask her to dance. Jake just smiled and stood there, watching her, and waiting in case she returned.  But she never did.> 

<He could see her shaking her head no to the other guys who approached her, so he was reluctant to go ask.  He thought about going back to chat with her but lost his courage. He just stood there watching her like watching a movie that did not include him.> 

<He tried to smile, in case anyone was looking at him, but now he was almost in tears.  This was the last chance he had to ask her to dance, but he couldn't. He was frozen in time watching her in slow-mo, helpless> 

<He wondered if she was dating him. For how long? He had a crush on her since middle school and just watched her from afar.  He noticed she argued with her date a few times and felt bad, hoping the guy didn't say anything mean to her. >

<He had helped her out a few times with other guys bullying her, and with homework and stuff, and he knew her name, but dare not say it, in fear that he might fall into an abyss if he did. So he was happy to just admire her from afar and help her out when he can.>

Math Girl's Date <Just then, the couple came over with his arm around her neck> Don't think I don't know about you, Jake.  You've been staring at my girl the whole time.  It's none of your business, loser.

Math Girl <nodding> It's ok Jake.  You don't need to worry about me anymore.  I've made my choice.

<As they walked away, Jake turned around embarrassed as to what had happened and what she meant. He was now in tears he couldn't hide.>

<The Arrival>

<Just then, the campus prince walks in, and all eyes turn to gaze at the wondrous beauty, both girls and boys.  As he glided down the center, everyone had already stopped dancing and talking, stepping aside to make room for his grand unexpected arrival and entrance.  SH was already a celebrity, he's the national junior ice-skating prince.>

<SH was decked out in a white tuxedo, truly, an image fitting for prince charming.  Everyone, watched intensely, as he walked toward someone who had his back turned, not knowing who could capture the prince's attention and heart. >

<SH reached the boy who had his back turned and wiping his tears. SH approached him, held his shoulders and turned him around to hold him, as Jake collapsed into his arms in tears.  He embraced him for 10 mins rubbing his back, comforting him, slow twirling and floating as the universe aligned and the stars shined upon them, everyone just watched enchanted.  It was now time for Jake to let go of his crush and say goodbye to her and never look back.>

<Everyone was stunned at the wondrous sight.  SH's acceptance of Jake elevated Jake's status. People no longer viewed Jake as just another boy from campus, but a visual graced by the prince himself.>

<SH whisked Jake away and left everyone enamored of what just happened.  The prince had found his beauty.>
