"True love is not how you forgive, but how you forget, not what you see but what you feel, not how you listen but how you understand, and not how you let go but how you hold on."
Isabella POV:
I could not believe what I witnessed and learned from a few hours ago, He was in a Fucking Mafia. He is a Mobster, A Mogul! Why didn't I see this before? "You should dig deeper" Lorenzo voice ringing in my head! Shit! Lorenzo knows? Damn, why didn't he tell me?
I'm in my sister's apartment right now after I rushed off from Nick's office, contemplating what I should do. The truth slapped me hard, If he was in the Mafia, then he is killing people. I'm not safe, my family is not safe! Double shit! What did myself get into? Should I run? Should I hide? But where? Oh, God! I stroked my face in stress. But he didn't do anything bad to me, did he? In fact, he was even more protective of me and he even valued me more. Oh, Nick! What did you do to me! I cried in frustration!
I step back, mind on idle. Instinctively, I force my hand in my pocket for comfort. I grab a hold of my phone to call him.
I dial the number. It rings twice before he answers. "Baby."
I don't say anything. I'm too choked up.
"Hello?" he asks, confused.
My breath comes out sharp and quick, but the words hang on the edge of my throat.
"Is that you?" he asks. "Kitten..."
I hang up the phone and throw it across the room. It lands flat on its face, and I watch as it starts vibrating again.
He's calling me back.
"Fuck," I whisper.
I hear footsteps in the Apartment.
And then I feel someone's presence. It's heavy and menacing.
I smell his cologne, so familiar...
In the blink of an eye, someone's hand glides around my head, fingers prying over my mouth.
My voice is muffled. Nick?
No. It's someone else. Someone horrifying.
A voice. A deep, brutal voice. "Don't scream."
I can't obey the commands. Panic sets in, and I immediately throw my heel back. The intruder grabs it, swinging me to the floor.
On my back, I slide toward the door. The sight of the intruder sends cold flashes of terror and alarm right through me. The man is wearing a ski mask with crude holes cut into the fabric. Long sleeves cover his massive arms. He's taller than a fucking skyscraper.
Oh. My. God.
Is this really happening?
"Stay back," I growl.
He chuckles.
I scream. "Help."
But the man isn't worried. And I know why. Everyone's at work, except for me. I let my guard down.
And then I realize who I'm looking at. It's Nicholas.
"No," I whisper.
"Yes Baby Girl"
"You are a LIAR!!" I throw the books at him and he catches all. I pant angrily, feeling the betrayal, the pain, all the lies. Tears fall heavily and I sob hard. He stares at me darkly and stalks slowly towards me. We're a few inches. I can't bear to see his face after all that I heard, and what he might have done, what I learned, and what he can do more.
