Chapter 38

She shakes her head no and pushes past me walking out fast, I'm caught between following her and going to the office. Dr Khambula walks out and she smiles greeting me

"Aaron, your mom told me you'd be bringing a file to me"

She says and I nod turning my head every now and then

"Is there somewhere you need to be?"

She asks and I smile and shake my head no

"Here is the file"

I say walking over to her, we walk into her office

"How have you been? How were the states?"

She asks and I fake a smile

"They were everything I hoped for and more but now I'm home for good and will only be leaving for tours every now and then"

She nods

"So they still kept you?"

She asks and I nod

"Yes, I'm still signed with them just that I'm based this side and I will need to go back that side every now and then"

She nods

"Oh that is really nice, I'm proud of you son"

She says

"I was sorry to hear about your friend, Dr what's his name again?"

I ask trying to remember the name

"Oh yeah, he got what he deserved"

She says and I frown confused

"He was murdered and nobody knows who did it. It turns out he used to rape the children that came to him for help and I also came to learn that he was the reason I got transferred to this side"

She says and I frown

"Where were you based again?"

I ask her

"I was based in Mthatha and then I got a transfer for some reason and I had to move to this side, I never even got the chance to tell my patients. It all happened so fast"

She says

"Asante was one of your patients"

I say and she doesn't respond

"Dr Khambula was she raped from home?"

I ask her

"Aaron your mother told..."

I cut her off

"Dr Khambula she was your patient before you moved to this side, is she one of the people that were raped by that doctor?"

She lets out a sigh

"Aaron I have a patient coming in. I think it will be best you leave"

She says. I get up but my knees seem to fail me

"I am sworn to doctor patient confidentiality"

She says and I shake my head falling back to the chair as tears threaten to come out

"He was at my graduation, everything makes sense. She saw him, that's why she acted out that night"

I say thinking out loud as things suddenly start to add up

"Aaron please, don't do this to yourself"

She says and I shake my head

"I could have done something had I known, I could have been more patient with her. I could have understood her better but I...."
