A/n I know Lupin got fired but let's pretend that he didn't kaaayyy
It was nearing the Christmas holidays, the halls were decorated with an array of tinsel and wreaths with bells charmed to knock softly from side to side.It reminded Emerald of a winter wonderland she had read about in a muggle book as a child before her Father snatched it off of her....
"Hey ice queen are you even listening?" Flint clicked his fingers in front of her face, she smiled sarcastically at him before shoving him lightly in the chest. The weeks leading up to this had been fun, mainly consisting of her and Pansy spending all their time with Blaise, Marcus and Theo due to their lack of interest in anything other than Quiddich ,meaning they weren't the pure blood dirtbags that Malfoy and his Goons were.
"Sorry what were you saying" she looked round
"Astoria Greengrass has apparently chopped half her hair off" Pansy said with a look of disgust, it was no secret that the two girls hated each other, Astoria or ASStoria as they called her, had publicly shunned Pansy meaning she spent a few years alone which understandably was hard for her.
Emerald looked around and her eyes fell on the Now black haired girl
"she looks like a troll"she said uninterestedly before going back to filing her already pristine nails. They didn't get on ,Astoria and herself ,Astoria fancied herself as the queen bee of Hogwarts and felt it was within her right to tell everyone what to do. Including Emerald.
"Behave Em" Blaise warned knowing it would probably fall on deaf ears
"I'll think about it" she muttered not raising her eyeline
"Look at her, such a harlot, it's not enough that she's got the whole of Hogwarts wrapped around her finger she's got to have the ministry too" she whined to her lackeys
She was of course referring to the recent election whereby Emerald's father was named the Minister of Magic. Emerald hearing this turned her head to meet Astoria's eyes
"Nice hair Astoria ,got tips from Snape did we" she smirked, sending the younger girl a challenging look.
Astoria looked shocked before whimpering and running off , her minions in tow, Emerald knew she'd get some sort of payback later but for now it was so worth it.
Blaise looked at her pointedly "did you not hear a word I said?"
"Nope" she grinned at him
he rolled his eyes playfully at her ,not noticing his friends sharing glances at each other, he was so different now
Before he had been quiet and observative not talking to anyone really ,keeping himself to himself but he kept his head down, got good grades and kept his nose out of Malfoy's business which made people like him .seeing him with Emerald was like seeing a new person ,they knew he trusted her more than anyone, he had always made that clear even before she got to the school.
The 5 walked to Defense against the Dark Arts together, the girls discussing outfits for the upcoming Hogsmeade trip and the boys talking Quiddich strategies
They split up once they got to class, Pansy and Theo sitting together, Emerald and Blaise and Flint took his seat next to his Chaser ,Adrian Pucey.
"Today we shall be learning non verbal spells, specifically duelling" came Professor Lupin's calming voice
Emerald zoned out ,her father had always been very attentive when it came to her wandless and nonverbal spells especially the duelling, he had her stupifying her brother by the time she was 7. This would be a walk in the park for her
"Mr Malfoy would you like to demonstrate a defensive spell on...." he paused looking around ,before locking eyes with the brunette
"Ahh yes .. Miss Gaunt"
