Marissa

Monday, February 7th

I grabbed my phone when it buzzed, hearing that familiar ringtone. I smiled as I read Johnny's message, excitement coming over me.

Yea! Wbu? I texted back.

Fancy* still haven't figured this out loll

I chuckled and shook my head. Hahaha. It doesn't matter don't worry. Well save the limo for prom lol.

Lol. He paused before texting again. Wait you do want a limo for promenade?

Prom*... or... I guess it's the same lol

I laughed and responded. Hahaha it doesn't matter silly. Tbh... idc how we go to any dance, as long as we go.

U really cant turn it off? I asked with a grin.

No!! it's so annoying smh

Haha sry. Ill text u when im ready ok?

Ok!

I took a deep breath to calm myself and looked in my wall mirror. My hair was done in long waves that cascaded down my back, with a clip holding the two locks on the sides of my face on the back of my head.

A green, sparkling clip was used for my hair. It was my mom's. It was really beautiful, designed like a shining butterfly.

My makeup was simple; there was some light green eyeshadow just barely painting my eyelids, so it wouldn't be too much, and my eyes were lined with thick, black eyeliner. My lashes were turned up just a little and there was a glittery, transparent shadow covering the green on my eyelids. I had some light pink blush, and ruby red lipstick that shaped my lips perfectly.

My fingernails and toenails were cut and filed, with mint green nail polish covering all of them. I wore a silver bracelet and a silver chain around my neck.

"Marissa! Are you ready?" Mom called from downstairs.

"Yeah, I'm coming!" I hurriedly put on my favorite silver heels and headed downstairs, careful not to trip.

As I neared the living room, I could hear my parents talking. My brows furrowed in concern. It sounded like they were arguing.

"It's a dance, Austin! It's not a big deal! She is 17 years old, and you need to loosen the leash already," I heard Mom whisper-yell.

"I just don't trust that boy, Elena," said Dad. "You know how teen boys are. She was already heartbroken by him before, and now he's leading her on right after he broke up with that other girl. It doesn't seem right."

"They're only going out as friends!"

"It doesn't sound like friends. I've never seen Marissa that excited before about a 'friend'."

Mom sighed. "Austin, I have a good feeling about him. And I also know the entire situation between them. ¡Por favor, cálmate! It's only a date! For a school dance! She's not getting married."

"I'm going to say 'I told you so' when he takes advantage of her and she comes home crying."

"Oh, Austin. It's a normal school dance. What could happen?"
