Xisuma! Woo! Maybe his thoughts will help you sort out the events from last chapter? Hmm? Haha, no.

Well, maybe a bit.

Also, this is first half-POV that doesn't include Grian. Nice.

I haven't written the chapter yet, but I already assure you I was listening to AJR the whole time I was writing. (Past me was wrong, I stopped listening to AJR to listen to "Dynasty" on loop)

I am so sorry this took so long! I was just not feeling it, and honestly just needed to take a step back and actually figure out where I want to go with this.

I have some things figured out, like the ending, but all the in-between things...

WELP.

WC: ~750 (short chapter... sorry.)

Enjoy!

Xisuma couldn't believe he just did that.

In hindsight, he should've asked Grian to look away, or close his eyes, or something.

No one saw Xisuma's face.

It was just how things were.

But here he was, getting all excited, and showing himself to someone he had met three days ago

And for what?

Xisuma refused to think about it.

The evidence was unignorable, but the conclusion...

Xisuma planned to go out of his way to come to a different one.

"What happened?" Mumbo asked as Xisuma stepped outside the little house.

"I tested something, and it didn't work," Xisuma chose each word carefully, although he was certain that Mumbo had already guessed what had happened. "I have to go. Admin duties call." Xisuma waved a quick goodbye to Mumbo before hopping in a boat and leaving.

He didn't really have anything to do.

But he needed to get out of there.

Now.

POV Shift: Mumbo

Mumbo couldn't help but feel a little hurt. He and the other Hermits had known Xisuma for the longest time. He had never shown them his face. And that was fine. It was just Xisuma's preference. No one minded.

But... for Xisuma to show it to someone he knew for three days?

And not the people he knew for years?

A small part of Mumbo couldn't help but feel wounded.

But that wasn't fair, now was it?

Xisuma could show himself to whoever he wanted.

And Mumbo was certain that Xisuma had his reasons.

So, the redstoner shoved away all his negative thoughts.

It was a ritual he had been following for the longest time.

Take all of the negativity, all of the rude, hateful, jealous, sad, challenging, dangerous thoughts, and ball them up. Then he would, internally, take that ball and defenestrate it. With a mental window.

Defenestrate, Mumbo thought with a small smile. What a word.  Words had power. That word, in particular, had the 'power' to make one smile.

Sometimes, it was nice to smile at the small things.

Grian came out of the house, stretching his wings.

"Hey, my... my wings don't hurt!" Grian realized, excitement lacing his voice.

"What? I thought they were broken!" Mumbo pointed out.

"Well... not anymore?" Grian guessed, spreading the lilac feathers. "I wonder how that works..." The Watcher grinned, then launched himself into the air. He hovered about ten blocks above the ground, a wide grin growing on his face. Mumbo couldn't help but smile himself.

"WOO!" Grian yelled, spinning around in the air. Mumbo chuckled at his child-like excitement. All of a sudden, Grian came flying over to him, scooped the redstoner up, and flew up about fifty blocks.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" Mumbo shrieked, clinging to the crazy Watcher. Grian laughed.

"Relax, I used to do this all the time," Grian said reassuringly.

Mumbo did not feel reassured.

"Put me down!" he yelped.

"Oh calm down," Grian's voice was light and playful. "It's nice, once you get used to it."

It is kind of nice...

I don't want to spoil his mood.

"Alright..." Mumbo's voice was hesitant. And dipped in fear.

Grian was right.

It was kind of nice, once you got used to it.

Grian climbed higher and higher, until they cruised at about a hundred or so blocks.

"Where are we going?" Mumbo asked, starting to feel more and more relaxed.

"Back to the house, I think," Grian replied, stopping to hover for a moment. "Or should we head somewhere else?"

"Yeah, let's head ba-," Mumbo's agreement was cut off by a shrill scream, as Grian started diving

The Watcher had tucked in his wings, and Mumbo was certain they were going a million blocks a second. Fear paralyzed the redstoner, but Grian knew what he was doing.

Sort of.

The ground was approaching fast, and just as Mumbo was preparing to die...

"You can let go of me now,"

Both of their feet were on solid ground.

And Mumbo was still clinging to Grian.

Like a child.

Embarrassment flew to Mumbo's cheeks, and he quickly stepped back. Grian seemed more amused than annoyed, though.

"Sorry," Mumbo mumbled. Something flashed on Grian's expression, but it flickered back to a smile before Mumbo could identify it.

"It's fine," Grian said dismissively, laughing it off. Mumbo laughed too, but his brain was focused on the expression he had seen flash across Grian's face.  It wasn't until Grian turned around that Mumbo identified it, and he was left shocked when he put it together.

Pure hatred.

What?
