CHAPTER 23

"Wait, so why did you
invite Vinnie over?"
Amber asks while we
pick up the house a
little.

"I didn't invite him, he
invited himself because
I left my wallet there
last night." I explain with
a small chuckle.

"And you told him he
could hangout, why?
I really don't want to be
third wheel today." She
complains with a playful
pout.

Emilio's out all day with
that girl Darianka, he's
probably giving her a
chance even though we
know he likes Amber.

We finish cleaning up
and chill for a few, while
our cleaning hype
music still plays quietly.

"Amber you do know
you can invite someone
too? Third wheel my
ass." I state rolling my
eyes.

"Bitch I did invite
someone and they said
that they were busy."
She sighs and frowns
a little.

Not her already being in
love with Jeffery. I'll mind
my business though.

"Well nobody said you
had to hangout with us.
We are just going to
play something on the
ps4." I shrug.

"What am I supposed to
do with you hogging the
good tv?" Amber asks
with her usual playful
sass.

I roll my eyes at her
harmlessly and chuckle
before throwing one of
the couch pillows at her.

——

"Thanks." I say quietly
as Vinnie hands me my
wallet and walks
through the doorway.

He nods in place of a
"you're welcome" and
sits down on the couch
awkwardly like we just
met or some.

"What we tryna play?"
Vinnie asks looking over
at me as I go to turn the
ps4 on.

"Uh well I'm cool with
whatever, but are you
down for some Call Of
Duty?" I answer with a
shrug.

"Yeah that's good." he
replies not really caring
what game we play
either.

We both are silent while
I finish turning on and
logging into the ps4. I'm
just a silent person until
I get into a good convo
or I'm constantly joking
around.

I know both of us don't
like how silent it is but
what are we supposed
to talk about? You see
this is why I had more
girl friends in school, it's
easier for me to talk to
them.

"Hey, one second
I forgot this controller
was broken, I'll be back."
I chuckle getting up and
heading into my
bedroom where I have
all my junk hidden in
my closet.

I know we should have
more controllers out
but Emilio and Amber
are territorial over theirs
and we don't usually
have guests.

I start looking through
my closet for the box it
is in while trying to be
quick so Vinnie doesn't
get bored and tired of
waiting.

I pull out a small box
that I know it isn't in,
yet I still look through it.
I get sentimental over
things easily so I keep
stuff.

I pull out a note from
my mom. When I was
around 12 my mom
went on a trip for a few
months and I saved all
the letters she sent me,
I miss her.

I feel tears forming in
my eyes and quickly
throw the box back in
my closet and continue
looking for my old
controller.

"Did I give it away?"
I question to myself out
loud getting annoyed
that I can't find it.

I sigh laying on my
floor basically giving up
and about ready to go
and beg Amber for her
controller.

"Did you die in here?"
Vinnie asks with a
chuckle, wondering
what is taking so long.

"Nope, just can't find a
damn controller and my
friends hate sharing."
I answer sounding a
little dense.

"Are you crying?" He
asks looking at me
very confused and
concerned.

"Not anymore." I laugh
awkwardly and look at
the floor before
changing the subject,
"I'll just ask Amber for
her controller, I'll be
right back."

"Are you crying over
the controller or? What's
bothering you?" He
questions ignoring that
I want to change the
subject.

I don't know if I want to
be honest or push him
away. I know I need to
work on opening up but
I don't want to. I barely
even open up to Amber
and Emilio.

"Obviously I'm not
crying over some silly
game controller."
I reply getting attitude
out of nowhere.

"Okay, stop being so
difficult and just talk
to me." Vinnie states
firmly as he still stands
in my doorway.

"Bruh everyone is so
nosy, like why do y'all
keep pushing me to
open up about stuff.
Sorry I miss my dead
parents?" I rant getting
genuinely tired of the
constant nagging.

Vinnie sits down next
to me on the floor, and
you can feel his "sorry"
from a mile away. But
I don't want any pity.

"Well we are done here
now, you should just go
home since I don't want
to play anymore."

"But gaming will make
you feel better." Vinnie
pouts playfully trying to
convince me and letting
the other topic go.

I sigh and think about
whether I should sulk or
just try and feel better.

"Fine but I'm making
you order me some
food." I state getting up
and crossing my arms.

"Whatever, as long as
I get to game." Vinnie
jokes rolling his eyes
and following me out of
my room.

Vinnie saying "just talk
to me" got me feeling
some type of way
though. Maybe I do
need to talk about my
feelings with someone.
