CHAPTER 19

"She is dead, Jess."
Neels states strictly.

My jaw drops I'm
shocked and sad, but
not as sad as I should
be. I've lost my
parents and my
brother fell off the face
of the earth, so I'm not
surprised.

"Jess you good?
you're real quiet over
there." He chuckles
with a concerned tone.

"Yeah just processing
everything, can you
come over later?" I
ask, wanting to
spend time together.
I want to be with him
during this time.

"Sure I guess, also
we are going to have
to plan her funeral."
He answers.

We plan for him to
come over around 5
and he'll be bringing
his girlfriend.

I kind of don't want
to go back inside
that restaurant.
Knowing my friends
they'll ask questions
and I don't want to
talk about it right now.

I finally head back
inside and everyone is
ordering their food. My
two best friends look at
me concerned but I
ignore it for now.

The waitress glances
at me waiting for my
order and I say, "No
thank you I'm good."
Which gets me more
stares.

"Girl I swear on our
way here you said you
were hungry." Amber
states looking at me
funny.

"Yeah, you never
miss out on a meal,
especially while here."
Emilio adds while
trying to read me.

I chuckle and state,
"I lost my appetite, y'all
lucky I'm even staying."

"Are you mad at us?"
Amber questions
looking concerned.

A wave of sadness
comes over me but I
ignore it and try
distracting myself.

"I'm not mad at you
guys, that's stupid. We
can talk about it later."
I fake smile and shake
my head.

My friends don't push
it but the mood at the
table doesn't change.
Honestly I should've
ordered food, now I'm
going to be watching
everyone enjoy their
food while I sulk.

I don't think It was the
right decision to stay,
unless I just blurt my
business in front of
everyone. I just want
someone to make me
feel better.

"I'll be back in a few,
I just need some air."
I state as I get up from
my chair.

"You were just out
there-." Amber starts
with a worried tone.

I sit down on an
outside bench trying
to calm my nerves,
and convince myself
I wasn't that close with
my aunt. My aunt was
like a second mom to
me though.

"You seem like you
need some company."
A voice that sounds
like Vinnie's says from
behind me.

I nod, I do want some
company but not 8
people. I just want to
be alone but with
someone.
